I would be interested in playing a marine/navy corpsman/medic type character...essentially a soldier who also has training in treating wounds and such, though not an all-out doctor.

Rhun: Sure, go for it.

OnlytheStrong: So Gunslinger would be to represent a sort of tactical shooting training (like the Mozambique Drill) the character has? Just asking.
Sounds good.

Shayuri: Yes.

Yeah, he wouldn't follow the "fancy gunslinger" but would be more of a SWAT type shooter. React and fire and make sure you don't hit an innocent bystander.

Garret Kage:

[sblock=background story]
Garret Kage was born in a small town in Oklahoma. He lived a rather average life, got good grades in school and played sports. He was a star football player, average at basketball and track.

Garret's parents were typical. His father was a football coach for a small college, which Garret decided to walk on and play at. His mother was a teacher, working with first grade kids. They were far from rich, but lead a happy life.

Garret had always wanted to be a police officer. He always felt like he needed to help people, to protect people. He had saved a lady's life once, by pulling her out of her burning car. He still had scars to show for his effort, but it was a reminder to him of how a single person can effect several people's lives.

Garret joined the police force as soon as he graduated from college, and moved to Kansas City. He served for 2 years then applied to be in a SWAT unit. He was overjoyed when he learned he was accepted. His training was intense, but he loved every second of it. They quickened his reflexes, sharpened his mind, and made him deadly with a firearm.

His first mission was an exciting time for him. He remembered thinking that he hoped he didn't have to use his firearm at all, but knew he would if he needed to. As luck would have it, he didn't need to fire his gun. The drug dealer they busted was asleep and too startled to do anything but complain.

His most recent mission went differently. A couple of armed suspects had held hostages in a bank and had already shot a hostage. His 4 man team had been assigned the task of saving the rest of the hostages' lives. When they entered the bank, they split into two man teams and covered each side of the bank. When both teams were in position, Garret and the team leader threw flashbangs near the suspects.

To Garret, the next moments passed nearly faster than his training had prepared him for. The suspects reacted to the flashbangs by firing their weapons, which promptly brought return fire on them. Garret double tapped his MP5, taking down a suspect. The other suspect was taken down by another member. He quickly left his position of safey and disarmed the suspects and used a tie-zip to secure their hands.

Garret's team had gotten the next week off as a result of the fatal gunfight. He underwent psychiological evaluations and was announced to be fine after the experiance. He decided to use the rest of the week to visit his uncles' cabin near Tablerock lake. It didn't have television, air conditioning, or electricity at all, but it was quiet. That's what he wanted......quiet.

Garret stayed at the cabin for a couple of days and decided to head home. He heard on the radio about the events that were going on. People were disappearing, fictional characters were coming to life, and there was a computer virus going on. He heard on the radio that military and police forces were being called in to report to their respective places. He decided to make his first stop the police station.

Garret reported in and was shocked to find that not many officers were at his station. Those that were, were wearing amor and heavily armed. Garret's captain was one of the men in the station and told him that the Fictions along with others were leveling entire cities. Dragons had taken over part of America. He had a hard time believing it at first, but the sheer look of terror on his captain's face told him it was real.

Garret barely had time to get suited up before it started. They were being attacked. They managed to hold off the attack, but they were getting tired. They had been fighting for hours. Garret was glad they have finally got a break when he heard the announcement on the radio. A nuclear weapon had been launched..........toward Topeka. Entirely too close to them.

He gathered up as much equipment as he could into a police cruiser and drove. He drove as fast as he could, as far as he could, only stopping to get gas when he had to. He was lucky to of escaped the nuclear blast, and actually saw the flash off of it. He stopped at a few buildings and gathered food and supplies, then he was off again.

He stuck to the backroads, heading east until he ran out of gas. Those roads were the only safe ones. He knew there were military units to the east. Finding one of them could mean his survival. He loaded himself down with as much equipment as he could carry, and headed off into the wilderness. He knew better than to go into towns or populated areas. If he could, he would survive. He had to survive.

[sblock=personality]

Garret is full of confidence, but learned during his time in SWAT that he cannot and should not try to handle every situation alone. That is where he feels he is at now. He needs to find more people to survive. He hates what the Hours did to the people who disappeared, and blames the CLUELESS virus for it. Innocent people died because of this virus, he feels like he needs to find out more about what happened.

Garret is just like every other human that survived, he's frightened. He figures that not everything that appeared wants to kill everyone, even though he has no proof as of yet. He resents the 5 years he has spent wondering from wilderness to wilderness, trying to survive. Every day he hopes it will be the day he finds more people willing to form a group to survive. There's my character background. I will modify it however you see fit if need be.

He Pre- or Post-Vanishing? If he is a Post-Vanishing Human, then he sees the world (and all the chaos in it) as normal. His backstory needs not change a lot (or any).

If he is Pre-Vanishing, then he lived 23 hours of pure inmesurable Hell and, needless to say, his view of the world is that of a Post-Apocalyptic survivor, no matter how well he can disguise it. Then his leaving to the cabincould probably be him trying to find a way to unwind before he explodes in someone's face.
