Cosmic Gothic Horror Campaign

Hello,

I want to start a new campaign. My players and I want to play an horror style. I DM'ed a lot of Classic Call of Cthulhu and played for a long time in a 2nd edition Ravenloft Campaign.

Now, I posses the d20 version of this two products, and I face a terrible problem.... I can't decice which one I will choose !! ;). I like them both. So, I think to mix them, to make an "Cosmic Gothic Horror Campaign".

It's my first try of combining two systems, and I don't know where to start. Does anyone have already try to mix this two systems ? Can you share how you handle it, or give me some tips ?

Thanks

How about letting the PC's be modern-age investigators of the unknown CoC-style, and then during an adventure, you send them through time and space into a gothic-horror-fantasy world?

Sounds like a gothic-horror version of the D&D cartoon.

I like it!! The cool part is the investigators themselves could be viewed as demonic by the locals! Their guns (if any) may or may not function and you could mess with them to no end re: languages!

Language could be a problem, yes, if the GM/DM ain't kind enough to make the native language of the fantasy world/domain be the same as the characters speak...

Anyway, my own idea there made me wanna play a little gothic-horror game or two... Autumn is soon starting for real, and it'll be cozy with a E.A. Poe-book and a game of Ravenloft/CoC in front of the fireplace...

BoGGiT, I like your idea of sending the PC in another dimension. I't can even lead to a war betwenn the Dark Power and the Old Ones :D. But I will not include Scooby Doo :p.

I'm asking me if I will use the Ravenloft Magic, or the Cthulhu magic.... I thing I will let the Cthulhu magic for the PC (and the bad guys that will be send with them :) ), and use the Ravenloft Magic for the local.

Ravenloft have Fear, Horror and Madness check, and Cthulhu have Sanity check. I think I will only use Sanity check. I love this system. But I will include the effect of the check of Ravenloft as possible effect for a failed sanity check.

For the class I will use the Cthulhu Defense/Offense option, but when the PC will be send in Ravenloft, I will let them take level in the class on Ravenloft.

What did you think of that ?

Thanks.

Sounds like a good idea... I must admit though that i've only had a quick look in the new ravenloft- and CoC-books, but since i'm quite familiar with the D20-system, i know that one of the strong sides of the system is the easy way that characters can take levels in other classes, making it possible for the players in your future campaign to let their PCs adapt to their new home while they try to find some way to get back to Earth 200x.
