Cost of a new magic item?

DizzyKungFu

First Post
I am the DM in a game, and I have a player that wants to make an item that gives a bonus to only one type of save (Will, in this case) as opposed to a "... of resistance" that gives bonuses to all saves. I certainly think this is an acceptable item, but does anyone have any information about how to compute the cost for that?

It will cost more than a limited save bonus. I'd say just 1/3 of a resistance bonus.

Bonus^2 * 333gp

That way in the long run it will be more costly than a standard resistance.

Note that while this only applies to one save it is still a resistance bonus.

Save bonus (limited) Bonus squared x 250 gp

Seems like the way to go. You could choose to make it a sacred bonus if the item was odd like say this.

Amulet of St. Cuthbert: Upon this necklace hangs a silver holy symbol of St. Cuthbert. Followers of St. Cuthbert that wear this item grants its wearer a +2 sacred bonus to will saves.
Caster Level: 5th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, 5th-level cleric; Market Price: 1025 gp; Weight: 1

My break down of that was.

25 gps for silver holy symbol
1000 gps for 2 lvl x 2 lvl x250gp (I made it sacred to followers of one god to get around the problem of resistance to sacred) after all its a holy symbol.

I would probably charge double for no restriction.

Hmmm...another question about a new magic item. Would it be possible to create a magic item with the powers of 2 different items? Im talking about the goggles of night and the lens of detection. This would essentially give you goggles that give darkvision and a +10 to search. the prices of the 2 items are 8000 for the goggles and 3500 for the lens...how much would that make the new item?

Of course the cost would be 15000gp.

8000gp for the goggles (3500*2) for the lens.

You just double the cost of every power but the most expensive.

For example say you want a belt the gives you a +30 to strength, +20 to hide checks, and +5 resisatance bonus to saves.

Str bonus = 30^2 * 1000 * 10 (epic item) = 9,000,000
Hide Bonus = 20^2 * 20 * 2 (secondary power) = 16,000
Resistance = 5^2 * 1000 *2 (secondary power) = 50,000

Total cost = 9,066,000gp what a bargin!

So by that reasoning, the cost for a bonus to one single save should be 1/5 of a bonus to all three saves, or bonus^2 * 200gp. :D

I.e. item that gives a +1 bonus to Will saves only: 200gp. Item that gives a +1 bonus to Will, Reflex and Fort: 200 + 2*200 + 2*200 = 1000gp.

No, with limited save they mean a save for one type of thing.

I.e. poison, spells from the enchantment shool, petrification etc.

Stuff like that.
