Cost of Feats in Items

Quidam

First Post
Anyone seen any rules for the cost of a feat in an item? I know there are some examples, but rather than search for them myself, I though someone might have seen something somewhere. I've been dreaming of boots of spring attack, but have no idea what the cost would be- probably haste as the prereq, but how much would you rate it as costing?

Not all feats are created equal, and thus there aren't (AFAIK) any hard rules for the costs of items that contain feats. The Ring of Evasion is the closest I can think of off-hand, and I believe it's around 20,000gp.

That said, I'd price your boots somewhere in the 200,000gp range. Spring Attack is ridiculously useful, requires a Dex 13+, and Dodge and Mobility as prereqs. That means the boots would be an item granting three feats and possibly a virtual dex bonus as well (!)

lol evasion isnt a feat, and by your pricing this would be an epic item.....

it's give you a moderately useful feat no more powerful than the sword of cleaving. I'd use that as a base example.

*shrug* I think it should be epic. It frees up three feat slots, and bypasses the dex prereq. Also, my rogue used SA nearly every round of every battle after she got it. So did the barbarian, though not quite that often.

A fighter (who can afford the three feats) probably won't care to use it, because he'll want to unload a full attack action. For most other classes (who can't afford the three feats) it is extremely useful.

And I couldn't in good conscience compare it to cleave. I have another character with cleave, and only used it two combats in 13 levels. It was so useless the DM gave the PC Great Cleave for free. Only used that once.

Of course, as always, YMMV, but that's been my experience, so if one of my players were to ask for such an item, that would be the general price. :)

I would treat feats as magical items.

If it's a basic feat, with no prerequisits, consider it a +1 magical weapon (or armor, depending on the feat used, use your judgement). For every pre-req, consider it an editional +1.

So let's consider a Lance of Knockdown. Knockdown has 2 pre-requisit feats. So it'd be a +1 weapon, + 2 prerequisits, +1 for Knockdown.

So our lance would cost the equivilent of a +4 weapon.

and therein lies the difference cleave has 1 preq feat a min strength requirement. a small difference between it and spring atack and in that campaign you mention a dm gave feats away for free.... I've had characters use great cleave to kill 9+ creatures in one round nevermind a whole campaign. It is the most useful feat for fighters who are fighting multiple enemies essential giving them free extra atacks at their highest bab. That's a little more powerful than being able to move before and after the atack.... IMO.
