Could the Live Transformers Movie Herald...

The art was realistic enough that I could easily see a live action version, be interesting to see how they deal with Rei's (and Kaoru if he's in the movie)'s hair though. If the budget existed, seeing the series remade well as live action the entire way. For a single movie I'm afraid how much they'd have to trim/abridge/cut the storyline to fit it into the 2 or 3 hours (maximum) of a mainstream release. Evangelion: Death & Rebirth already had to trim things almost unrecognizably to fit it into a single movie.

I don't see how in the name of drunken ninja Jesus you can do Evangelion without Kaoru. Heck, I don't know how they can do it at all in a single film!

I'd heard they were making a Live Action version of Evangelion.

It has the (slight) possibility of being very cool, Eva itself being a remarkably cool show. Of course, since its a mecha show within the framework of a surrealist psychodrama (where every major character is a textbook case of several serious mental illnesses) with kaballistic apocalyptic imagery, that'll be interesting to mainstream American audiences.

Is this the same one that James Cameron may or may not be involved in? If he is I'd expect it to be at least entertaining. If he directs expect it to be damn cool.

Um. I know nothing about the property itself. :)

I want my live-action Frankenstein Jr., dammit! And he'd better be fighting giant mosters with Bob Conroy on his shoulder!

:)

No, he's doing Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita).

Holy crap I cannot wait for that movie. I absolutely can. not. wait. I am so setting myself up for major disappointment...

Cameron hasn't always made great movies, but they've never been uninteresting or dull. So it might be a flawed adaptation, but it will be at least an interesting one.

The Live action Gundam movie was called "G-Savior" and it wasn't set in any previous continuity. It was about at the level of your typical Sci-Fi Channel movie.

The really sad thing about "Gunheed" was that it was the most expensive live action Japanese movie ever made at that point and its special effects were pitiful compared to "Robo-Jox" a grade C american film. However, CGI does level the playing field considerably when it comes to doing mecha stuff. Gunheed was never animated to the best of my knowledge, it was based off of a manga series by Kia Asama who did the manga for Silent Mobius.

Personally, much as I love giant robots and such, I find the whole Transformers universe to be cringe inducing. I was just too old when they came out and it just didn't measure up to more adult fare like Macross/Robotech.

Evangelion I am also wondering how they are going to condense that down to a single movie. Though there was a lot of filler and most of the Angels are largely irrelevent to the over all plot. The smart thing to do, I suspect would be to sit down and look over the important plots and themes and then just re-write things from scratch.

I'm worried about that one... Did you hear its going to be in 3-D?

But...the Angels are the context for the entire story! Lessee which Angels though are absolutely needed (this is opinion though), and what they provided to the story?

The 3rd Angel, Sachiel (AKA Beaky), is the first one we see, and the first one fought.
The 4th, Shamsel, is important, since its how they get an S2 engine, but that itself is only incidental overall.
Ramiel, Gaghiel, Israfel, Sandalphon, Matarael and Sahaqiel are all incidental to the plot.
Iruel, the 11th Angel, gave us insight into the MAGI, but nothing more.

Then things get complicated, the Angels start demanding their price. What they cost is what kicks the story forward.

The 12th, Liliel, takes Shinji's confidence.
The 13th, Bardiel, takes Toji's body, and Shinji's trust. More importantly, it reveals that the Evas are FAR more than just machines.
The 14th, Zeuriel, costs Shinji his body.
The 15th, Arael, takes Asuka's will.
The 16th, Armisael, costs Rei her life. If that's not in there, then I'm not touching the film with an 80ft barge pole, since "Tear" is my favourite episode of the whole damn series.

And do I really need to say what stopping Tabris costs them?
