Master Psion
First Post
There are some flaws in what I am trying to accomplish but at this point I'm hoping to find out what I need to do to make it so. I guess maybe if I best describe my intentions, I might get some answers.
Ok, what I am trying to figure out is how I can ultimately work my way up to obtaining the Epic Counterspell feat and use my psion to counterspell and counterpower equally.
Now, I realize that normally powers cannot be used to counterspell unless I have an ability granted by the Arch Psion PrC, mastery of power negation. It states that I can alter the negate psionics power to counter spells and powers as dispel magic. That part's simple enough. One more level of Arch Psion and I can take that ability (I'm currently psion 15, arch psion 3).
Assuming my psion would be able to counterspell and counterpower, I figured that maybe there was a way to increase my ability to do so. I started looking around and found the Epic Counterspell feat. Seems like a good goal to work towards, especially since it's exactly what I'm trying to do.
The requirements for the feat are: Combat Reflexes, Improved Counterspell, Improved Initiative, Quicken Spell, Reactive Counterspell, Spellcraft 30 ranks. I'm intending on taking the "psionically flavored" version so instead I would need Psicraft 30 ranks.
Here's where it gets tricky (and the part I'm having trouble overcoming). Improved Counterspell allows me to use a spell of equal or greater level from the same school that I would be attempting to counter to counter. Using If Thoughts Could Kill, I see that there are many existing spells that are brought over as powers. Not all spells are and unfortunately, there's no universal translation from spell school to power discipline.
So I begin to wonder, assuming I'm able to do what I'm trying to do in the end, would this just end up being a feat that I have because I needed it as a prereq but could never use? If so, that would be the same case for Reactive Counterspell since all it allows me to do is make counterspell attempts even when I haven't readied an action to do so.
As for the Epic Counterspell feat, I'm assuming (unless I learn another way) that the best I might be able to do is use the negate psionics power (more than likely greater negate psionics) to make counterspell and counterpower attempts. Ultimately, I just want to be able to make as many counterspell or counterpower attempts per round even if I haven't readied an action to do so, just as the Epic Counterspell feat allows.
Can anyone see a flaw in my reasoning? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
