Alright, this is the begining of my new project. Basicly, I've been getting that itch again, so I've decided to build a new D&D 3E world from scratch. Since I don't have the outlook of any players for next few months and also this is just going to be a pet project of mine, I've decided to build it from the outwards to in.
I plan on posting all my ideas I have on this thread, so people can watch this world slowly come togther and hopefully, offer ideas and suggestions along the way. Anything I use or post here is absolutely free, so if you like an idea, old or orginal, take it, I beg of you
Also, I only own 2 DnD books. The PHB and the DMG, so don't recomend anything from another Source unless you can show it to me 
Righty Ho, so now we've got that out of the way, lets get down to buisness. I don't have any name for this campaign/world yet, so I'm just going to call it Project X till I can think of a better title.
I want the world to be post Apocalyptic so societies are rebuilding and will need heros. Also, I liked the idea of an Island world so I'm going to incorparate that. So far, here is what I got :
History
roughly about 1,000 years ago, the world near came to an end. The world's Pantheon of good Gods had been banished by a plot from a cabal of evil Gods. The Evil Gods fought amoung themselves and finished eachother off, leaving the world a mess and Godless. The only thing thats left are a few large islands scattered amoung the deep blue oceans.
Bare bones right now, but it's enough for me to work with.
Cosmology
I wanted my cosmology simple. The world is basicly a globe within a cube. The space between the globe and the cube is known as the "Astral Plane".
-The South side of the cube borders the elemental plane of Fire
-The North side of the cube borders the elemental plane of Water
-The East side of the cube borders the elemental plane of Wind
-The West side of the cube borders the elemental plane of Earth
-The top side of the cube borders the 9 heavens
-The bottom side of the cube borders the 9 hells
-The southeast corner between Fire and Wind is the Demi-plane of Ash
-The southwest corner between Fire and Sand is the Demi-plane of Magma
-The Northwest corner between Earth and Water is the Demi-plane of Ooze
-The Northeast corner between Water and Wind is the Demi-plane of Gas/Steam
I've decided that I want heaven/hell sealed off right now for some reason unkown to me. If either one is unsealed, the other one also becomes unsealed. Heaven Right now is filled with powerful Good aligned beings but no Gods ( No Worshipers ) and Hell is in the same state. I've decided that beings can be summoned from Heaven/Hell but cannot enter on their own power.
When mortals die, their soul gets sent to The Creator ( See Magic Section ) who judges their lives. If they were Good ( LG,NG,CG ) They are sent to one of the planes in Heaven/Elemental ( sometimes a choice )*. If they were bad ( LE,NE,CE ) then they are sent of one of the planes in hell or Elemnetla (Sometimes a choice is given)*. If they were Neutrle ( LN,TN,CN ) Then they are sent as spirits to dwell on the Etheral Plane.
The Etheral Plane is a Alternate reality with the Prime plane. Here the world becomes hazy. Buildings and manmade structures disapear but the landscape remains the same if not a bit more Alien. Roughly one foot in the Etheral plane equals 1 mile in the prime plane. Many strange creatures wander the Etheral plane.
*- If the being lived his life worshiping and using the powers of the Elemental planes, he will have the choice to be sent there.
Magic
There are two kinds of Magic in my world. Gifted (Divine) and Weilded(Arcane)
Divine: There are 2 kinds of Divine magic. Elemental (Druids) or spiritual(Shamans). No magic can be gotten from the Heavens or Hells at this time.
Arcane: The more dangerous and more powerful magic that is known as "The Language Prime." Basicly, Wizards use the exact same language as "The Creator" used when he forged the world. Using the Language Prime is very dangerous and taxing on the soul and body.
I'll elaborate more later, but this should be enough for now.
