Crafting Feats: Monte vs Core

The one issue that isn't covered by Monte's 3.0 based list is staves - items which are charged but which can use the wielders caster level rather than the caster level it is created at.

I believe that staffs were left out since the staff is the iconic item a magister needs to cast spells. Thus staffs have a different tone in AU.

However, in the Diamond Throne, traditional Staves are mentioned under magic item creation as requiring Craft Charged Item or Craft Constant Item based on the nature of the staff.

I'm guessing that he chose caster level 12 because that follows the D&D standard for rings.
Probably. Still awfully high for a feat that's used for a lot of staples: cloak of resistance, stat-buffers, and so on.

In my house rules, I have a "Craft Greater Charged Item" feat that lets you (a) make multi-function items, and (b) allow the wielder to use his own level and stats, as well as add templates that don't increase spell level to the spells in the item. You have to pay the cost of those templates (so if you're adding the Fire template, you need a red gem worth 25 gp IIRC). If the cost is "laden spell", you need to expend one (not two) spell slots of the appropriate level.

Its in Unapproachable East and Complete Arcane. I like the idea of a Craft Permanent Spell feat.

Yes...CA is gonna have to go on my Christmas list...no doubt about it. Once I know what the requirements for Craft Contingency Spell are, it should be easy to work out Craft Permanent Spell.

Only one - Caster level 11th

It allows you to create a single-use, one spell magical effect similar to that created by the contingency spell.

Thank you everyone, the dm is still deciding

[joking] Though I'm beginning to wonder if I might be better off not supporting it so strongly :P keeping core would save me from having to spend a feat on craft single-use items as long as I don't craft anything that actually takes up the ring slot(or can someone figure a way around that? :P) [/joking]

The feats used in Arcana Unearthed are:
Craft Charged Item (wands without a spell level limit, and you can make items usable by anyone for a slightly higher cost)
What is the higher cost for more useable items?

A factor of 850 instead of 750. Note that the AU system also adds spell-specific multipliers to most spells that makes many of them harder to put into items.
