Crazy Loop of Weirdality.

I'm confused by one thing. When they split up, didn't they plan to get back together? Why didn't that happen a long time ago? (I'm guessing it's just evolved this way. Or it took longer than expected to get the artifact.)

A little of both actually. They originally planned to get back together after accomplishing their respective missions. Both just kind of got caught up in other events that demanded their attention. At this point neither of them actually has the artifact yet.

The evil side had one part of it, but lost it, and the good side has a couple parts of it but not the whole thing.

In addition, the evil side has an interparty conflict brewing between a titan worshiper and a worshiper of the gods. (It's Scarred Lands... well sort of.)

Ye gads, indeed.

Somehow, I can just see the climax - the question is, how will the players determine who wins?

Chuck(DM): "Valdemar the Paladin, amid the ashes of the battlefield, you finally face the evil Lord Dargoth."
George: "Dargoth, you cur! Face the might of St. Cuthbert! Your ed is nigh!!"
George: "Valdemar, you flunky, stand aside! You have no hope once I don these artifacts!"
George: "You have to use them first!" DM, I'm attacking before he gets to use them!
George: But Dargoth is also casting his Quickened spell!
George: But not before my Quickened Searing Light disrupts it!

Chuck: I'm going home now, guys. Let me know how it ends. :D

Haha, yeah. The final battle I'm somewhat dreading... But it's a ways off. :-p (At least I think...)

One thought is to have everyone choose their favorite character and give the other one to someone else. That way no one ends up playing against themself like the above skit. :-p

I'll let you guys know what happens :-p

back in 1985-1987 i ran a similar event. but the two groups were actually two groups.

one good aligned (lawfulish)
and one not so good aligned (but mostly good)

the climax was a battle between the two groups.

the good guys won. and the other good guys died.

they were seeking the same artifact... A Heartstone known as the Grey Gem.
