Create a Soul

Couldn't you just stitch a bunch of limbs and such together, or some similar non-cloning method of body production, go through the system, then go through the process, and name him Frank(enstein)?

I don't really see a difference in the process. Is there one? The manner of building the body is different, but just kind of cosmetic.

Nah, heh. You'd name him Adam.

I believe that to animate as a zombie the corpse needs to be reasonably intact. Don't have the book on hand to check atm though. You could always just make a Flesh Golem and Awaken Construct on it, if that's what you wanted.

Well, wait a minute. All the Awaken spells create a soul. There just doesn't happen to be one laying around that creates a soul in the form of a living humanoid. So I think the whole aim of "creating a soul" is actually really simple, with all these Awaken spells around here, it's getting it in a friendly form that's not. Could just make a spell, say 8th level, that does it anyway.

Heh, nah it's not that, Nightfall. When my player proposed this whole shebang to me, it was before UA had been released, so true rituals hadn't entered the picture yet.

Nowadays, I -love- true rituals. They let you have A) big magics that utterly transcent spell levels, but are hard to do and take alot of time (and you can screw up - WOOT), and B) lets you have large groups and the like that arn't spellcasters themselves, but can get together and do some big ol' honkin ritual to produce magical effects.

Regarding the 'kill your clone' issue, you could:

1 - Clone yourself.
2 - Kill yourself, thereby awakening your clone.
3 - Animate dead your old body.
4 - Awaken undead.
5 - etc.

In my campaign, the method of creating a soul involved a temple that reflected soul energy inside it like a giant, spiritual echo chamber. You send 8 people in at once, trigger the proper sorts of memories and events to dredge up the necessary parts of a soul, and when they leave, they bits of echoes will have coalesced into a new soul.

How would a true ritual be crafted to create a soul?

Hmmm...where are these "true rituals" in UA? I faintly remember something like that in Savage Species...
They aren't. Sejs is propably thinking of the incantations, while Nightfall talks about powerful ritual spells from Relics and Rituals, the second book released by Sword and Sorcery Studios. Primarily designed for the Scarred Lands setting, the rules can be used in "standard" D&D.

(Besides, incantations were first introduced in Urban Arcana, and look a bit more like Epic Spells in that book).
