Creating a new character after a TPK - I need some inspiration

OK, our FR campaign ended last night with a TPK.
My last four characters have been a Cleric, a Fighter/Cleric, a Ranger, and a Wizard.
Right now I'm thinking of playing a rogue.
Our campaigns tend to be combat heavy and intrigue light.
So what kind of a rogue would you make in an FR campaign with
Scores of 15, 15, 14, 14, 11, 11 (arrange as you like, Races with a +1 LA are allowed, using any of the following; any FR book, the Complete ?? series, the MiniHB, and BoED)

A couple ideas I had were a rogue/monk/shadow dancer or a rogue/paladin/shadow dancer.

Another question - which scores would you rather have
15, 15, 14, 14, 11, 11
or
15, 14, 14, 13, 12, 10

A Dwarf Fighter 4/Rogue X/Tempest 5 is a pretty solid character.

15 Str and Dex, 14 Con and Wis, 11 Int and Cha.

Ninja/spellthief/invisible blade could work pretty well. Just strike out 'ninja' and say that he's a thief-assassin with mystical tendencies.

Just plain Spellthief sounds like an excellent choice for you. Unlike most Rogue-ish classes, you'll actually have to know quite a lot about magic (of both Clerical and Wizardly sorts), and you have the expertise required.

I can attest to the hideous combo that is Rogue/Shadow Dancer.
In the last campaign I ran the Rogue 8/Shadow Dancer 8 armed with a Con damaging weapon, killed a Titan - SOLO!
Granted he had good die rolls, and planned his ambush very well, but Hide in Plain Sight allows you to pull off some incredible ambushes. Don't overlook the the potential of maxing your Hide and Move Silently and sniping from the shadows with a Con damaging crossbow.
HiPS + Sneak Attack + Con damage = One Bad Dude.

If you can get your DM to accept the fixed invisible blade prereqs, then Rogue 2/Swashbuckler 3/Invisible Blade X is a powerful combination. You lose some sneak attack from Swashbuckler, but get good hit dice, a feat you were going to get anyways (Weapon Finesse), and a bonus to damage equal to your int mod. At 10th level, you can feint as a free action, and lay down the sneaking and attacking with ease.

Also good to consider is the Shadowbane Stalker (From Complete Adventurer). It's a cleric/rogue combination (think arcane trickster), but with some nifty abilities for channeling turn attempts. I haven't seen any builds yet, but a Cleric 4/Rogue 1/Shadowbane X seems to be the fastest way into the class. The only problem is the reduced casting level, so Practiced Spellcaster is very useful for this character.

Without going into any of the fancy classes, I'd consider a Rogue combined with Diviner, Transmuter or Sorcerer...all that fun with cat's grace, spiderclimb, plus true strike and/or magic missile and divination spells etc...a nice, capable and lethal scout.

Getting a little fancier along that particular route, I'd also consider trying to get access to Spellfire- lotsa fun, that.

Or, if you wish to get thuggy with it, Check out Savage Species and Races of Faerun. Consider some of the +1 level adjusted races- Gnolls, Lizardmen, Bugbears, Hobgoblins, certain anthropomorphic animals, Aasimar, Tieflings and all the other planetouched make NIFTY rogues, usually of the strongarm variety. Combine one of those races with Rogue and perhaps Ftr or Rgr, and you have a nasty bounty hunter, backstreet ruffian, enforcer or bodyguard.

in the campaign i'm in right now which is rather combat heavy, i'm playing a Kingdoms of Kalamar Class, the Infiltrator, which is very rogue-ish. the big difference? increased movement speed.

howbout combining rogue and barbarian levels, get the spring attack feat, and be the flanking/sneak-attacker? get yourself a base move of 40, the rage for some extra help when ya need it, and the ability to move around combat pretty constantly without provoking AoO.
