Creating & Buying Monsters+Lairbuilding

Sorrowdusk

First Post
I'm a 20th lvl evil cleric with 850,000 gold to spend on a small Stronghold. Its based on an abandoned island, and my cultists (about 93 of us) are living in the unholy caves under it. We dont have Leadership in the game, so I dont have any real cohorts (well I have Lilitu to whom I am wed in unholy matrimony to help manage it-so you know she auto passes on UMD and casts as a 9nth lvl cleric herself), and my followers are "normal" Lvl 1-2 NPCs right now compared to mah (un)gawdlyness, further acquisition limited by upkeep/living fees. They are drawn from the local population -the region being an area of dead calm seas, with shipwrecked sailors. I offer them food, clothing, weapons (free authentic cult daggers) and "salvation" from the gods that have forsaken them. I've trained up the wisest of them as 1st lvl clerics, and scrounged up a handful of hedge wizards.

I have planes for a pimped out magic boat from Stormwrack that can sail the planes in, but what can I do to make the place stand on its own while I am gone? Primary things to worry about are Scrags, Sahuagin, Merrows, and Kuo Toa ATM.

Also, is there a big fat list of every kind of monster than can be

A) Created
B) Purchased

? I'm not able to hire on high lvl casters as security, but for any magical stuff that can be bought (that I cant do myself), I have connections to hire enchanters/etc and bring them out there to install things.

Right now atm I have

- 8x Necrosis Carnex
- 8x Plague Walkers
- 3x Wraiths
- Illusory Terrain (Out of stronghold builders book that makes the island look smaller, replacing land with ocean and rocks jutting out of the sea that look navigable. If you dont know the proper path, you risk running aground or smack into the tall cliffs)

I am planning on
- 1x Bloodfire Ooze
- +50x Wight Brigade (I can Use Vile Death to meld fiend spirits with them, which gives them an independence but.....they have an attitude of "Indifferent". Therefore, int theory.... I can convince them one at a time to join my religion - and become friendly with me at DC 15, and Helpful at DC 30 on Diplomacy. Divine Insight can give me +15 on a single skill check when triggered)
- ?x Bodaks: same as above, although their int is low.

I am also planning on Boon Traps (Dungeonscape) to help buff them. They have Stalwart Pact on them, so against "normal" threats I know they will get +35 temp hp when they dip below half, making them fight like 4 guys of their level. Right now I am thinking Psychic Poison, Delay Poison, Endure Elements, and Cold Snap (drops the local temp by -50 degrees which will wear down invaders + Cloud Gathering Orb to hit them with freezing rain)

-8x Deadborn Vultures (CR8's who are trained as mounts, so they can ride on them, and give air support, plus, they self re-animate seamlessly upon death without falling out of the sky and remain loyal to those they knew in life)

-1x Coral Golem (maybe not the best outright golem out there, but it swims and has 4 slams with stunning, and fast healing and DR)
-3-4 of those handy 3/day Summoning stones. (Skulvyn and Caller from Deeps for in water, Wrackspawn for the dry parts of the caves, as they Blindsight for rooting out anyone stealthed)

-??? Gonna see what I can do with Miracles, if they will let me populate the island with Nightstone (Heroes of Horror), and a forest of Viper trees (Fiendish Codex).

-Symbol Spells, Glyphs clerics are good at that stuff.

For the Wights, I recommend getting someone to Ennervate a small village. Kill off the 1HD commoners, they raise as wights, collect the wights.

I'm afraid I can't be of too much assistance outside of this.

A village belongs somewhere. Oh sure, you could burn it down, but it would be missed eventually. Plus, that's "murder".

Leave no evidence I say.

I am planning to buy up some exotic Elven pleasure slaves and sacrifice them. I'll kill them in the sacrifice with negative energy, then bleed them out and collect the spilled blood. The bodies will rise, and the collected blood will be separate materials for the ooze. See....whether you can kill a slave or not all depends under whose "laws" you are under in the campaign setting. So technically even if someone comes to my doorstep after finding me out I can just argue I was totally legit, like anyone else where I bought them. I will not use up all of them though, I will give some to my selected officers, and guys that do well in non-negotiable "marriage".

This also means eventually people will not just wash up in region, but a small number will be born there. Born into our cult....

}:-)

Call it a commune of doom if you want.

I also eventually want to get those Scrags, Merrows, and Sahuagin tribes under my deity's worship. Buuuuuuut I dont know how far diplomacy will go with them. But if I can get even one group, or somehow support a side in tribal conflicts, I may be able to get the rest.

Hey, I'm sacrificing elven pleasure slaves to my mad god aren't I?
I like being...."techically right", which is the best kind of right.

Sounds like he's not opposed to murder per-se, but rather seeking ways to ensure his low-level cultists can be self-defensive against presumably much higher level/overwhelming odds when he's NOT around to support them. Eliminating an entire village would DEFINITELY draw unwanted attention as well as remove a potential source of trade/recruits; criteria limiting many of my initial ideas as well.
