Creating Intelligent Items

Well, if you are looking for cleric-type stuff, consider sorting through what abilities from the list of those available to your magic item might have had as a living Cleric - Knoweledge, Spellcraft, and Diplomacy might be good skill-based lesser powers; Bless, Detect Magic, Cure Moderate Wounds, and Locate Object might be good spell-based lesser powers.

It's a fairly simple winnowing mechanism, really - may also want to weed out offensive or opponenet weaking item powers at the same time, as it isn't a weapon-based item (or not - could be fun to have a little inconspicuous bead that can throw a 10d6 fireball at will, when it's following it's Purpose...)

Heh--given our party's abysmal diplomacy skills, and my ability to change self at will, I was considering the 10 ranks in diplomacy option, shifting into the form of a woman, and working on my lip-sync skills :D.

If you've got the recources for it, get it high up enough that it can use Telepathy to talk to you; no need for lip-synching.

If you are going to be doing that, though, you may want to examine an item I put into the House Rules section recently.....
