Creative methods of assassination

Well, based on a thread from the rules forum, how about 7,000 poisoned needle rings (from Dragon #316) on the huge tentacle of a 20th level Rogue Kraken? That's 7,000 damage + 4,000D6 CON damage (save for half) as a touch attack. :)

-----------

More seriously, mind-blasting Psions (gives the attack against non-psions a +4 to DC) who overlap and stun the party silly in a blind area.

Or, ranged snipers with STR or DEX poison arrows or bolts, on a balcony, who throw down entangling nets to make it easier to hit?

By now they've probably gotten wary and use Detect Poison a lot. Now's the time to break out multi-stage poisons: things that are not in themselves poisonouus but become so when combined.

For instance, Lord X (secreted in the pay of the assassins) has his men thwart an 'assassin attack' on the group and offer the safety of his well-defended keep for the night. The feast that night has wine, roast pig, desert, etc... all of which the lord eats as well. The fine beeswax candles in the rooms given to the PC's, however, are laced with a substance that becomes a gas as the candle burns. The wine and the pig have the first stage of the poison, while the gas is the second part. Inhaling the gas, they go unconsious only to wake up on the rack in the dungeon...
Ah, I remember that one being used by one of my old DM. Success guaranteed. (as well as the lynching of the DM that generally follows ;) )

The idea is to damage the PC by methods than cannot be detected or that they won't try to detect:
Somebody with access to cure disease can infect himself with a fatal disease with a long incubation period, then he/she just has to contact the PC.
Somebody with the poisoned template (creature collectionIII) makes great assasin, and most of the time they don't have to fight to deliver the poison...
