D&D 3E/3.5 Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

not that different from where we were to begin with. :) i would support the Dex drop if you like. the mental stats may not need that severe of a change, though. AD&D verbeegs ranged from 8-12 Int, so while the assigned 12 is too high, i'd say 6 is definitely too low. i'd like 10 for Int, maybe 9 at worst. as for the other mental stats, a drop from what the CC has may or may not be in order.

I agree with a 10 Int. Both of the old versions agree on "average to very" Intelligence. So a 10 fits well within that range. It's say make them less strong than an orge or hill giant, maybe a slightly lower Con. These guys are supposed to be the brains, not the brawn.

i wouldn't necessarily make them weaker than an ogre. remember, back in the day, ogres weren't considered giant-kin - but verbeeg were.

Good point, but they should definitely be weaker than hill giants.

Sorry for the confusion...I missed the Int score they had before.

Instead, how about: Str 23, Dex 8, Con 17, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 11?

That is slightly less Wisdom than the frost and fire giants, but the same Int and Cha.

that's much better! so, a slight decrease to Dex and Int (-1 to the modifiers), and a very slight increase to Cha (no change to modifier)

Cool.

I think we need to add a "Spear Throwing" ability similar to other giants' rock throwing ability.

For skills, we need to add Intimidate and possibly Diplomacy to capture its ability to command other giants.

cool! more likely Intimidate than Diplomacy...

the (well-deserved) drop in Int means it now has 16 skill ranks.

I think we should keep the Climb, Jump, Listen, Spot common to hill giants and ogres, and throw in Intimidate. Maybe like so?

Climb 3, Intimidate 6, Jump 3, Listen 2, Spot 2? Both the ogre and hill giant have only enough ranks in Climb and/or Jump to cover the Armor Check penalty (-3).

don't forget, the verbeeg has a -4 check penalty because of the shield. the armor also takes his speed down, which takes away the nifty bonus to Jump. thus, he only gets the +6 from Str making the total bonus for Climb and Jump +5 with the ranks you suggested (which is just fine by me).
