D&D 3E/3.5 Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

agreed on the subtype. these were one of my earliest conversions, so there are bound to be some issues. :)

they are *essentially* winged kobolds, but of course there are bound to be some differences.

i'll consider lowering the natural armor after i get a better look at them in general.

see the Monstrous Manual for 2E stat comparison between kobolds and urds - since they are on the same page. ground speed was identical, so we might as well keep it that way. light sensitivity sounds good, as it is somewhat implied by the flavor text.

however, i'm not so sure that we should keep the kobold Craft and Profession bonuses, as it sounds like these creatures have a very different way of life from kobolds.

and i agree that the rock bomb should have stats as a unique weapon type.

<looks at MC> I think I see why you gave 'em the higher nat armor...they had a higher AC in general. However, the higher Dex should cover that difference.

I also note that they could advance to 5 HD before. Should we retain that?

Dropping the craft and profession bonuses is fine.

I think dropping natural HD progression would be wise. They're humanoids; they should advance by class. Which brings up the question of LA.

Possibly, I'ld prefer to advance them by character class. I suppose you could have an Urd Paragon prestige class ;)

Urds attack by dropping stones upon their victims. These "rock bombs" weigh two to three pounds apiece and are covered with jagged edges and protrusions. Urds drop these rocks with great accuracy. Unsuspecting victims are treated as AC 10 for the attack roll. Actively dodging opponents are considered AC 2 before modifications for Dexterity. Each rock that hits causes 2d4 points of damage.

stats for this, then? ;)

Rock bomb. Exotic ranged weapon (urds are automatically proficient with rock bombs). Range increment 10ft, small damage 2d4, medium damage 2d6 20x2 criticals. Rock bombs have a range increment of 20ft when dropped vertically on an opponent.

The AC differentials can be ignored - the urds catching their victims flat-footed are a more appropriate reason for the AC difference than making a new mechanic.

I'd make it a splash weapon.

Rock Bomb: You can throw a rock bomb as a splash weapon. Treat this attack as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 10 feet.

A direct hit deals 2d6 points of piercing damage. Every creature within 5 feet of the point where the bomb hits takes 1 point of piercing damage from the splash.

Actually, that works better. No need to worry about proficiencies, and urds would need a supply of multiple rock bombs to really do damage. But shouldn't it be 2d4? That was the "classic" rock bomb damage, wasn't it?

are we saying that it breaks up on impact then and sprays pieces everywhere, or that it bounces around after hitting? ;)
