D&D 3E/3.5 Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

also... i was thinking that it should have a melee attack, as basically anything with the means (if not the will) to do so has one.

While it is true that a booka can deliver a painful bite, there is no significant damage done by it. At worst, the booka’s victim suffers a nasty welt with a minor loss of blood. In general, a booka bite is about as dangerous as a paper cut.

maybe a bite attack that deals 1d3 nonlethal?

FYI, this is what i had already:

Bookas speak Sylvan, and many known Elven and Common, and some even speak the secret language of rogues.

Since 3E ditched the secret language of rogues, I'd drop that part. ;)

i, however, disagree on making them part of the sprite category (partly because i don't believe there ought to be a sprite category, but that's a conversation for another day...)

But it has the outstanding taste of limon!

how about:
Str 4, Dex 20, Con 12, Int 12, Wis 15, Cha 13

Cool.

A Tiny creature would only do 1 point of nonlethal damage with an unarmed strike, so I'd go with 1 point...either lethal or nonlethal.

OK, wrapping up a few points about the booka...

Skills: Animal Empathy +4, Craft (any two) +5, Escape Artist +7, Hide +8, Jump +6, Listen +7, Move Silently +9, Search +4, Spot +7

it should have 28 skill ranks. not sure what it would have based on the above (switching Animal Empathy to Handle Animal), but ability scores have changed so we might as well figure it out from scratch. :)

Feats: Alertness, Dodge - either it needs to lose one of these, or it becomes a bonus.

Bookas are able to become invisible at will. This power is so basic to them that they can do it at any time, even when engaged in another action. They use this ability to evade enemies or attackers.

would it be simple enough to say it can become invisible as a free action?

I'd go: Craft (trapmaking) 4, Diplomacy 2, Escape Artist 4, Hide 0 (size bonus and Dex bonus will be sufficient), Listen 4, Move Silently 4, Search 4, Sense Motive 2, Spot 4

I'd ditch Alertness.

I'd make it a swift action. How long does the invisibility last? Until they choose otherwise?

i'm switching Diplomacy to Handle Animal. they really aren't friendly creatures, in the sense of talking and saying Hi, since they spend all their time hiding from the people they help, and intimidating those they don't like by using traps and tricks. :)

also, i really like the idea of them Jumping. if you agree, we can say they use Dex for Jump checks, and go like so:

Craft (trapmaking) +7, Escape Artist +9, Handle Animal +3, Hide +13, Jump +5, Listen +8, Move Silently +9, Search +8, Sense Motive +4, Spot +8

i guess it should have a better than average duration - wouldn't want to be sneaking around and then suddenly the invis gives out. maybe it would be more like greater invis then?

Sounds good.

Jumping seems kinda pointless with a fly speed of 50 ft. (perfect). ;)

Either is fine. We could just make it "resume or end its invisibility as a swift action".

heh! good point.

Invisibility (Su): A booka can become invisible, and can resume or end its invisibility as a swift action.

does that sound appropriate?

what LA sounds good? is the DR and SR good enough for a +1?

weight? it's 1 foot tall, but can be 10-14 inches (sometimes even taller)

Or we can stop trying to reinvent the wheel...

Greater Invisibility (Su): A pixie remains invisible even when it attacks. This ability is constant, but the pixie can suppress or resume it as a free action.

;)

yeah, but these guys are different from pixies. it sounds like they are only invisible when they want to be, rather than the either way around, using it to hide or escape.

This should work. It still has the ability to essentially remain invisible all the time, but without specifiying otherwise, it will become visible should it attack.

-1 size
+1 Fly speed
+1 Manueverability good or better
+1 DR
+1 SR
+1 At-will invisibility
+1 unbalanced ability scores
--------------------
+5 LA

However, the pixie, when judged by these same standards, appears to have been dropped by a point, so a +4 is probably adequate.

I'd say 1-2 pounds.
