Creepy Atmospheric Music suggestions?

NewJeffCT

First Post
The players will be going to a haunted mansion in game in a few sessions, so I wanted some ideas of some creepy atmospheric music songs I can play to help set the mood.

Tubular Bells from The Exorcist
Nightmare of Elm Street theme

Jaws was pretty creepy music-wise, but it's also at sea.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm a big fan of Ahab's "nautic funeral doom metal" albums, The Call of the Wretched Sea and The Divinity of Oceans.

The music's very, very slow (including the lyrics, which are barely recognizable as an actual human voice), so it's not distracting at all - but ominous and creepy, in my opinion. The song below is actually probably one of the faster ones.

Amazon has [ame=http://www.amazon.com/99-Darkest-Pieces-Classical-Music/dp/B0048NUUS2]this collection[/ame] of "dark" classical pieces which is just a damn good selection anyway. And it's only $5!

I suggest you look up the band Midnight Syndicate. You will immediately recognize them since their cds are often used for the sound track at various Holloween Attractions.

Easy.
The score from the game Thief: Deadly Shadows would easily fit. It is ambient music and works okay if you just want to loop a particular track.

You may find the music downloads here. I am giving the site the benefit of the doubt, in regards to legality; TTLG and its sister sites were the official fan site for Looking Glass Studios. (I hold no responsibility if that is not the case.)

I used 'The Pagans' for Sound of a Thousand Screams and Realm of the Fellnight Queen.

Check out the band Nox Arcana also. They, like Midnight Syndicate, do Halloween-inspired "soundtracks" that are great. I'd google "Blackthorn Asylum" for what you're looking for.

There's a whole thread that is essentially a database of music related threads, each of which is chock full of good ideas:

The drone band Earth has all kinds of stuff that would be appropriate, as would the work of extreme guitarist Buckethead's recordings as Death Cube K. You could also get some mileage out of the compositions of Glen Branca.

In a different direction, check out the groups Kronos Quartet and Apocalyptica.

I find Tubular Bells and stuff like it pulls my players out of the moment, because of the incredibly strong cultural attachments. It's meta.

I use stuff like this;

To be effective. There's definitely a sense of "...!" when this stuff comes on.

Also

And

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoctTLnoMmI]YouTube - Tangerine Dream - rubycon part 1 (part 1)[/ame]

Have the same effect.
