Crew vs. Crew combat

I'm sorry if other people have posted about this but I searched and didn't find anything. I was very intrigued by the vehicle rules in the AV but I felt they were missing the idea of ship to ship combat.

I thought we could borrow the crew rules from Star Wars: Saga. In that system every crew has an overall rating from untrained to ace that grants set bonuses on skill checks and attacks. Obviously the DM can use these to simulate an enemy crew closing in for the attack but the PC's can also use these rules for their own crew.

The chart goes something like this:

Training Level Attack Bonus Skill Bonus
Untrained -5 +0
Normal +0 +2
Expert +2 +5
Ace +5 +10

Under this system the DM would use the skill bonus of the ship to roll initiative, to pilot the ship in rough waters, or to make any other check that's needed. He would use the attack bonus to represent attacks done with the ship weapons.

For the PC's one of them would have to act as captain. That character would spend a standard action each round controlling the crew. He would make the necessary attacks with the above bonus. The pilot would still direct and control the ship and the other characters could still attack.

Would this work?
