Critical Hits and Negative Levels?

Methos of Aundair

First Post
A few sessions back my characters were facing an advanced spectre and the spectre scored a critical hit against one of the pc’s. A spectre deals damage in the form of 1d8 plus 2 negative levels. Due to it being a critical hit I ruled the spectre dealt 2d8 plus 4 negative levels. No one had a problem with this except the player. He abided by the ruling but later discussed it with me saying he didn’t believe negative energy was doubled during a critical hit. This is a player who isn’t a problem, but just wants to see it in writing, only neither one of us can find it in the core books. Basically, my exact question is, can someone show me, or point me in the general direction, where it states that either energy drain, negative levels, or supernatural abilities are also doubled in a critical hit? Or inform me that I am incorrect in my ruling. Thanks in advance.

From the SRD under TypesSubtypesAbilities.rtf (and probably the back of the Monster Manual, too):

Energy Drain (Su): This attack saps a living opponent’s vital energy and happens automatically when a melee or ranged attack hits. Each successful energy drain bestows one or more negative levels (the creature’s description specifies how many). If an attack that includes an energy drain scores a critical hit, it drains twice the given amount. Unless otherwise specified in the creature’s description, a draining creature gains 5 temporary hit points (10 on a critical hit) for each negative level it bestows on an opponent...

HiH,

This, of course, can get extremely nasty when one of the PCs in the group is a 20th-level Lich with a Keen Mercurial Life-Drinker Greatsword (the weapon in the DMG that deals two negative levels to its target on every hit, and one negative level to its wielder). Every time he gets a 19 or 20, he deals eight negative levels to his target, and since he's undead, he's actually healed by the negative levels dealt to himself rather than hurt.

(That happened in a campaign I played in, except it was far more cheesed-out and deadly than that.)
