Critique some [Force] based spells for me

Yes, but what Angcuru was pointing out, that as it is, force sphere enables you to cast it once, and move it twice each round as a move-equivalent.

So:

1st round 2d8 + 2d8
2nd round 2d8 + 2d8
3rd round 2d8 +2d8
etc.

All for one 2nd level spell.
I think toning it down to something like 2d4 would be more reasonable.

Just to point out that :
force descriptor have 2 major effects :
- no resistance (compared to fire/cold resistance)
- force spell can hit Ethereal creatures/character.

so IMO Force spell should go thru a MetaFeat, as a feat allows priest to do Holy damage (1/2 damage of spell) a Force Spell feat should be invented .....

die_kluge:

I was in agreement with you :) Its definitely too powerful as written (2d8, twice a round). The only other real trouble I have is that most effects dont have a saving throw, they just occur. I think thats the biggest problem with making force damage spells that are consistent with existing spells.

Technik

Technik4, all these spells grant a saving throw. The only spell I know of that does [Force] damage is magic missile, which doesn't allow a saving throw. Show me one other spell that deals [Force] damage. I mean, that's pretty faulty logic: "magic missile deals force damage and has no save - therefore all spells that deal force damage must not require a save." Pfeh

Malicene, not that I don't believe you, but where in the books does it say that Force damage affects ethereal creatures.

From the SRD (ghost template entry):

"As ethereal creatures, they cannot affect or be affected by anything in the material world. "

It makes no mention of [Force] spells being the exception.

Really, I hear all this talk about [Force] spells being the shiznit, but I have yet to find anything in any sourcebook that specifically talks about what [Force] damage does.

Subsequently, I intend to add the [Force] descriptor to a lot of other spells - all the Bigby's spells, for example, and Telekinesis.
