Custom Class, Plane Hopper

First Post
I am trying to design a custom class that involves planar travel. I have named it the Plane Hopper. The class will have to do with absorbing energy from the planes of existence and using it to fight.

Example: Absorbing Energy from the plane of fire to use fire spells.

This is just a rough hypothetical example. They would be able to cast Plane Shift an unlimited number of times as the first class ability, which is not all that useful in battle and it is difficult to control where you end up on a plane.

Does anyone have a formula for making a class. I checked the SRD and they have a section for it, but it is poorly constructed and incomplete. If anyone can provide a formula, or even a crude chart or just some advice it would be appreciated.

As far as I know there isnt anything like that. The Pathfinder Bestiary has a table at the back showing ranges for monsters, and logically the players will be in those ranges as well, and you could check out Trailblazer for their excellent analysis of the "Spine" of 3.5 which would serve as to power guidelines, but there isn't a definitive guide.

Class building is more of an art than a science, art to make it interesting, and math to keep it within a power level.

Hope that helps.
