Custom PrC: Wanderlust, Servant of Farlanghn

Zyphoid

First Post
So I am playing a cleric in a 3.5 module and was looking at PrC's for the character. The go to cleric PrC seems to be the Radiant servant of Pelor since it is just a cleric on steroids. Since I chose Farlanghn as my deity to get some appealing domain abilities I am unable to take that class and decided to modify it to make it work for my character.

The theme of this class is travel, as Farlanghn is God of Roads, so many of the abilities have to do with speed altering affects, or improving the character's ability to buff team mates. Im looking for advice, suggestions and opinions as to whether or not this is a balanced PrC.

This PrC is based completely off the Radiant Servant of Pelor from Complete Divine, page 52. The BaB, saves, and spell progression are idetical to that class, and anything not listed below will be the same.

Reqs:
Skills: survival 5 ranks, Knowledge(religion) 9 ranks
Feats: Extra Turning
Special: Must be divine caster, must be proven a devout and trustworthy member of the church.

Hit Die: D8
Skill Points: 2 + int mod
Skills: Concentration, Craft, Diplomacy, Heal, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge(religion), Profession, Sense Motive, and Spellcraft.

Level BaB Fort Ref Will Special Spells
1 +0 +2 +0 +2 Celerity Domain, Turn Undead +1 level as cleric
2 +1 +3 +0 +3 Divine Helath, Extend Spell( Celerity domain)+1 level as cleric
3 +2 +3 +1 +3 Aura of Alacrity, +1 level as cleric
4 +3 +4 +1 +4 Still spell(Celerity Domain)+1 level as cleric
5 +3 +4 +1 +4 Bonus Domain (Glory or Protection)+1 level as cleric
6 +4 +5 +2 +5 +1 level as cleric
7 +5 +5 +2 +5 Temporal burst +1 level as cleric
8 +6 +6 +2 +6 Silent Spell(Celerity) +1 level as cleric
9 +6 +6 +3 +6 +1 level as cleric
10 +7 +7 +3 +7 Chain Spell(Celerity) +1 level as cleric

Celerity Domain: at 1st level you gain access to celerity domain, if you already have it, choose any other farlanghn domain.
(This in part replaces Greater Extra Turning which is an incredibly powerful ability. This domain in combination with the D8 instead of D6 HP are meant to replace Greater Turning)

Aura of Alacrity: At 3rd level the character and all allies within 10 ft get +2 to reflex saves.
(Replaces aura of warding. Seemed to fit the theme better.)

Temporal Burst: At 7th level you can use a standard action + 2 trun attempts to send a pulse of temporal energy out. The pulse has a radius of 80 feet. All allies in the area are affected as if by a haste spell, all enemies are affected by a slow spell.
(Replaces positive energy burst. I initially had it only slowing enemies, but then I realized slow is only a 3rd level spell and alrdy affects multiple targets. So I added the hasting as well. May need tweaking.)

As to my decision to add the celerity domain at 1st level: the 1st level abilities for the radiant servant seem to expand on the sun domain, Pelor's namesake domain. I was trying to make adjustments to the Travel domain's ability/spells and was finding it difficult to do. So I decided to give the next logical domain in my opinion of a cleric of Farlanghn, Celerity, which has spells that can benefit from more meta-magic-ing than the travel spells could.

Overall I think the class may be a little underpowered due to the limited usage of the celerity domains spells.

So that is what Ive got so far. Never done this before so I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks for reading.

What are the BAB and Saves progressions? What are the class skills? Does every level increase divine caster level?
By "Survival 5, Knowledge (religion) 9, I assume you mean ranks? As without the "ranks" part, there are shenanigans to get your skills to those levels to get into this class at level 2.
Temporal Burst is pretty beastly, I could see taking this class for 7 levels just to get it. Is it an at-will, or 1/day, 3/day...?
Also try listing them like this:
Level 1: Celerity Domain
Level 2: Extend Spell (Celerity Domain)
Level 4: Still Spell (Celerity Domain)
Level 6: Silent Spell (Celerity Domain)
Level 7: Temporal Burst
Level 8: Chain Spell (Celerity Domain)

^^ <3

Thanks for the advice. I did note that all bab/saves/spellcasting was same as radiant servant. As well as class skills. I have the info at home though and can post it when I get there tonight.

Temporal burst is fairly powerful. Atm it would be at will but uses 2 turn attempts so you would have a limit in that respect. Especially since I'm in an undead heavy module and have DMM quicken as a feat and DM restricts nightsticks to one per character. The ability could be moved to rank 10 and trade places with chain spell, or be changed.

Overall I think the class may be a little underpowered due to the limited usage of the celerity domains spells.
Full spellcasting progression, bonus domain, free metamagic for spells of that domain, 3/4th BAB, good Fort and Will saves...

Well, it's certainly no Duelist.

I edited the original post to show the progression table for the proposed class. Its identical to the radiant servant of Pelor's except for the specials column.

I assume from the sarcasm that this is overpowered at the moment Dandu? Most of the things you mentioned are already part of the class I based this on. I supposed I should have said that it seems underpowered compared to the radiant servant of Pelor. Im not exactly a seasoned D&D veteran, which is why Im asking for advice on tuning it.

What would ya suggest to tone it down?

Thanks again for the feedback

Haha, sorry, I just didn't want to have to look for this other class you were basing it off of in order to help you.
For the BAB, and saves, you can just say. "Medium BAB, good Fort and Will saves." Although we might not instantly recognize where the class your basing this off of is from, anyone offering advice should know the basics of Base Attack and Save Progressions.

Although this class seems fairly restrictive... a one trick horse as it's said, I really don't think it suffers enough from that to make it underpowered. Clerics are beast as it is, so to make a prestige class for them underpowered, you would need to TRY to make it so. AFAIC, it is balanced enough to put into a campaign. Any problems with it will be seen while playing it, not by looking at the stats.

Also: One never knows what Dandu is saying, or if he is being sarcastic, one can only guess.... Deathstar FTW.

I assume from the sarcasm that this is overpowered at the moment Dandu?
Overpowered compared to what?

By virtue of having 9th level spells, you pretty much make anyone without the ability to summon angels cry themselves to sleep.

On the other hand, it's weaker than Dweomerkeeper because it doesn't give anything insane.

I'd personally place it slightly ahead of with Radiant Servant in a non-undead heavy campaign.

Ok, I'll show it to my DM then and see if he will allow it. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't proposing something totally imbalanced before I gave it to him.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
