Customizing D&D Minis

Melkor

Hi Folks,

Just curious - Has anyone done any custimization work (added/removed weapons, repositioned limbs, etc.) on the new pre-painted D&D minis ?
If so, what did you do ? How did you make it work ?

Thanks.

I believe this has been brought up before..I distinctly recall someone repainting and adding terrain to the base of an orc warrior.

This page has some good re-paints. I believe he has some instructions detailing what he did elsewhere on site.

Thanks for the link MythosaAkira. Thats the kind of stuff I was looking for.
Those repaints look great.

I primed and re-painted one of the dozen half-orc monks I own. (I've actually managed to pull more of that 1 uncommon than ANY of the commons.) He actually came out pretty good, and considering that he didn't have much detail he was pretty easy to paint. In priming the figure, I didn't lose too much of the definition on him. The figure pretty much has a robe, pants, boot, belts, and muscle definition. Other figs might not stand up to priming so well.

I did the same thing to my Kobold skirmisher that I do to all my kobold minis that have crossbows- cut off the bow part and make them into shotguns. For the Kobold Skirmisher, this didnt even require any repainting, as the base plastic used for the mini is the same color black as the crossbow was. I also have been taking Metalic Sharpies to the bases to try to spice them up a bit. Its been working pretty well. It makes it really easy to diferntiate between multiple copies, cause I can just say "the copper based kobold" or "the silver based man at arms"

I've found that just gluing a bit of flock and gravel to the base makes them look far far better. It also makes them a bit messy when I pour them out of the box I keep them in but it's worth that sacrifice.

have given some orcs extended spears with paper clips.
