Well I would have to say that the DND movie has already been made and it's name is LOTR.

Uh...no. Gotta disagree with ya there. LOTR is based on a literary Classic, not a game. Sorry.

Now, that being said, there HAVE been several movies far more in the vein of D&D than that craptastic movie of the same name.

See The Sword and the Sorceror, Hawk The Slayer, Sorceress, The Beastmaster, and Conan the Destroyer. While not all of them are even GOOD movies, they are entertaining as D&D-type films.

I would have to say that our great game is largely based on that literary classic and if said classic hadn't existed.......I don't think our game would either.

I whole heartily agree!!! if there wasnt a lord of the rings in whatever form, be it the literarture or movies, there would be no dungeons and dragons. there are too many references to the books to discount this theory.

OMG. Would someone please stop the abomination from being born! :(

Don't they realise that making a movie about a game system is a horrible mistake? Please do something more productive. Make a gay romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock and Natalie Portman please. It would be less spewtastic than D&D movie sequal.
I'd pay a million platinum for a pass on that set, especially for the sex scenes!!!

Gotta disagree, there. while there are some outright Tolkienisms (ents, balrogs, elves as a major allied races, halfbbits, swords that glow when orcs are near, etc.), D&D still would have existed, because Howard's Conan, Moorcock's Elric, Feiber's Mouser, and Solomon Kane would have still existed. These were Gary's major influences, and Dave Arneson would possibly (not likely, but possibly) have taken his "role-playing ideas" to market himself. Even then, Marc Miller's Traveller stands as an idea he was developing independently of D&D; D&D gave him the push to finish his work, but his "wargame variant" would have seen press.

None of this is to say D&D would exist in its current form, had Tolkien not produced his seminal work; it would be very different than it is today. Alas, that's a topic for another thread.

FYI: The 411 from Eric M. *me spoke to the King of Mags*:D, that it is just a preview summary of the movie, not the movie itself.
*Oh Frack...I'm giving news....AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! On Vaca, on vaca, must stay on vaca:confused:.*
