I'll agree with the consensus: could be not bad. And in that case, buying it is a garuntee.

It looks to have the production values of a Hercules: The Legendary Journeys episode. Which isn't nessecarily bad, because that kind of budget would work for a D&D movie. It's not A-list, in fact, it's a bit Z-list, but a Z-list DTDVD movie made well could definately outclass the cinematic crapfest that was the first movie. And like the man said, if DVD sales are solid, there is a solid chance that there will be another theatrical release...done frickin' well, maybe?

My buddies and I saw this preview. We were hanging out in the room before it watching fan films (and having a good laugh). When they started up, we were baffled at how fast the room had filled up and the legions of gamers waiting in line to see it.

I did see a guy with a camcorder.

Well if Charles doesn't get the footage online its good to know someone probably will.

I'm optimistic that this will be fun movie and a good renter. It has a high chance of not sucking as bad as the first one. I'd put it in the category of things like Kull the Conquerer, Conan the Barbarian, Krull, Beastmaster and the like--all not-good but really-fun movies.

Well lets not include Kull the Conqueror in that quartet, that movie was worse than the D&D movie!

Conan (both), Krull and Beastmaster (first) were all enjoyable fantasy adventures.

I already have a favorite character--the thief. He was this cranky short guy shoving party members out of the way so he could disarm traps.

Is that the main guy in the poster?

Ahhh come on. My non-gamer wife made me buy that movie because we had so much guilty fun watching it. Any movie with the line, "With this axe, I RULE!" can't be half-bad.

It definitely falls into the class of "Movies that could have been D&D campaigns I've played in".

Ahhh come on. My non-gamer wife made me buy that movie because we had so much guilty fun watching it. Any movie with the line, "With this axe, I RULE!" can't be half-bad.

I think we can chalk that up to schaedenfraude. For me it was just bad, rather than 'so bad I liked it'.

When will people learn that the more far fetched the idea of the movie the more serious the tone needs to be to pull it off. When they just go over the top it becomes painful to watch and I'm looking at you Jeremy Irons (D&D); Thora Birch (D&D) and you Tia Carrere (Kull) when I say that.

It definitely falls into the class of "Movies that could have been D&D campaigns I've played in".

Well I was hoping I wasn't going to hear about this, but a friend of mine found the D&D2 movie on the internet and downloaded it.

:\ His review on it was that it made the first movie look good....that can't be good. I'll probably still watch it though to see if it is as craptacular as it is suggested.

When will people learn that the more far fetched the idea of the movie the more serious the tone needs to be to pull it off. When they just go over the top it becomes painful to watch and I'm looking at you Jeremy Irons (D&D); Thora Birch (D&D) and you Tia Carrere (Kull) when I say that.

I wouldn't say the tone needs to be extremely "serious" so much as "commited" and a tad "subdued". An overdose of seriousness leads to melodrama, which can be as self-effacing as winking at the camera (the short-lived 1990's Vampire the Masquerade springs to mind immediately as a show that took itself too seriously all the time). IMO Sin City provides a good example of actors commited to larger-than-life characters that spout over-the-top dialogue.
