D&D 3E DMG Versions?

Kesho

First Post
Greetings -

Does anyone know if the old $19.95 DMG is identical to the newer $29.95 version?

Did they sneak corrections into the book, even though the new, more expensive book still says "First Printing"?

I've been holding off, waiting for a corrected "second printing" (much like they did for the PHB), but I'm at the point of diving in anyways. A local software store has one of the $19.95 books, and if it's identical to the latest book, I'll just get it...

Thanks!

As far as I know the higher priced copies are the exact same as those still carrying the introductory pricing. They are both first impressions.

Cheers.

I had thought the more expensive ones contained some of the errata from the initial printings. IIRC, the 19.95 versions of the 3 core books was for penetration. Now that they've got the market, they've upped the price to where it should've been in the first place.

DMG cost/version

I know that with the PHB they started printing versions of the book that contained all of the errata and additions before they upped the price, and I believe they did the same with the DMG. I got the original two books right when they came out, so had to go through them with a sharp pencil and the errata in hand to fix them.

It wasn't until fairly recently that they upped the prices to $30.00. At $20, I don't think they really made much money on the books, if any - where I know they made their money was in the supplements, the thin paperback books with the B&W printing inside. At $15 a pop, and much cheaper printing costs, these are where they made their money back. Good business plan, and I'm more then happy to have gotten my original books at such a cheap price, considering how nicely they were put together.

Like I said, I am not entirely sure. But, the PHB was clearly marked as "2nd printing" when errata was included.

The price point doesn't have much to do with the content, as far as I have heard. Even in the 2nd printing, the PHB stayed at the introductory price for quite a while.

WotC is professional enough that you can probably trust them to make the usual notations when there is a change in content.

Cheers.

Thanks all for your attention -

MThibault, I think I'm inclined to agree. That's why I've been waiting and waiting for that "2nd Printing" to show up in the DMG. I think I'll haunt the WoTC site to see if they have any rumors over there...

Again - thanks all!
