D&D 4ed Power Tracker v1.0.0.0 Info Page

Original Public Release

Introduction

I was running a 4th edition game with some friends who had a bad tendency to lose track of what powers they were using, so the responsiblity fell on me.

For a while I was simply using a notepad file to track the information and decided there had to be a light weight application to take care of this and if there wasn’t I would make it. This is the result of that.

I ended up adding tracking for hit points, healing surges, and defenses so more info is in one convenient place.

Features

  • Loads character files exported from WotC’s online Character Builder.
  • Add monsters directly from WotC’s Monster Builder using Copy to Rich Text.
  • Docked, slide away window for quick easy access without taking up too much space.
  • Small footprint, the whole thing fits in one half meg exe.
  • Double click on monster entry to open Rich Text view of monster.

No comments at all? If you aren't interested in trying the program why? Is it because you use a combat management program so a specialized application such as mine that is mainly for power usage with hp, healing surge, and monster tracking added isn't needed? Or perhaps you have no need for an application at all because your players track their own info fine. Or, do you feel uncomfortable downloading an unknown program to your computer from someone that only has 1 post on these forums (well 3 now), would releasing the source code convince you to give it a try?

I'll give it a shot, and see if any of my players want to try it out as well.

I won't be able to get any feedback to you until the 25th at the earliest, because this week's game is about to start and I'm not going to delay it by introducing new tech to everybody. But, I will get back to you.

I might look for something along these lines if I used technology at the table, but my bigger question upon first reading this is: Why are you tracking your players powers?

Shouldn't players track all their own stuff, like HP, surges, powers, durations, etc.. In the game I play we use minis with soda bottle rings to represent effects like stun and slowed. We use cards for powers and honesty for surges and HP's. I try to spread out any jobs to make my life easier, like tracking initiative and putting the soda rings on the minis. Granted I have been playing with these players for a few years now, but for the most part I trust them not to cheat. I even have them roll the monster damage against themselves.

Please do not take this as a rant against you doing something wrong in my opinion. It is just as the dm you should have the players helping you make the game more fun and not having you track everything and them just showing up. Something like this may work great in an online game if there is a way to link it together.
