D&D 5E D&D 5E Kickstarter

I think a smarter thing would be for WotC to kickstart special edition prints of books they're making anyway. Quicker timeframe, and all that.

I agree with all of the above reason why they wouldn't want to do a Kickstarter for 5E.

The only way I could see it work is to set up a Kickstarter project involving 5E where the proceeds were going to a mainstream charity (sorry, not the Gygax Memorial Fund, worthy though that is to many of us), with WotC matching donations.

If I saw this, my reaction would be:

WotC: "Hey, Bandwagon! I saw you pass by, and just HAD TO JUMP ON!"

Kickstarter ain't really for the big guys, and D&D is the biggest guy in the (admittedly small-ish) market.

Yeah, just to jump on the bandwagon too, but, why would they bother?

What funding do they need? Is there any indication that they are lacking funds in any way?

And, what, exactly would they be kickstartering? Development of the new edition? Considering they're already about a year into that project, AFAIK, you don't kickstart stuff that's well into development. So, what, exactly would the money be for?
