...Close runner up is the Moonshae Trilogy (Douglas Niles, I think...or was it Jeff Grub?)

That was Doug Niles. They were good, but I'm going to throw my hat into the DL Chronicles ring. These were just great (nostalgia not withstanding). I also enjoyed the books following the FR Avatar Trilogy (and even the trilogy itself was pretty entertaining...I love the ToT).

Salvatore's Homeland was an excellent read as was the entire Icewind Dale trilogy (I can still picture the sewer fight in the Halfling's Gem).

Ahhh ok thanks. I had a moment of confusion there.

And yeah, the avatar trilogy was cool too. I love Cyric's descent into evil.

The sewer fight...so cool...Drizzt v.s. Enteri...awesome.

Iron Throne, hands down. The only D&D based novel I have ever managed to get beyond the first chapter.

Dragonlance has never appealed to me., The DL modules killed it for me.

DnD Novells.....I liked !!

Hello,

I enjoyed the all the Dragonlance novells and they were the first DnD type books I ever read but once I started reading, at a much later date I may add, R A Salvatores Drizzt Do'Urden Novells and his Cleric Quintet Novells, I much preferred these books instead. I was facinated by his character development and portrayals in the Cleric Quintet and enjoyed his plots, intrigues and fighting choreography in the Underdark of Menzoberranzen. All round a much better read IMHO. :)

Dragonlance : original series, tales of the twins, Draconian Army Engineers, Lord Toad

Salvatore: Icewind Dale, Legacy, Menzoberanzan books

While I do not claim it was the best writing in the world, the one D&D novel I remember above all else is Curse of the Azure Bonds. Also read (and enjoyed) a couple of the cleric quintet books and the moonshae trilogy books already mentioned. :)

(note, I can't stand ANY of the Drizzt books... but that's a personal preference sort of thing ;) )

Edit: fixed a spelling I wasn't sure about

First DL trilogy. I've read very few other DnD based books...

I'm amazed no one has said the Gygax Gord books tho. I guess it's because they're out of print.

It's a tie for me between Dragonlance Chronicles and Paul Kidd's Greyhawk books. The former entertained me as a kid, while the latter entertained me as an adult.

Dragonlance Chronicles, Legends, and War of Souls. Of the non-Margaret Weis/Tracy Hickman DL, Tanis the Shadow Years was my favorite (even though it wasn't really consistent with the character, just a fun little yarn).
Dark Sun Prism Pentad
The Broken Blade (Dark Sun) by Simon Hawke, the fourth book in his Outcast series.

Elaine Cunningham's Elfshadow and related books, primarily because of the Danilo Thann character.

Other than that, a smattering of FR, DL and DS novels, in particular the books Prince of Lies, Crucible, and the War in Cormyr trilogy. The Iron Throne was very good, but I could never get into the other Birthright novels.
