D&D (2024) D&D Beyond: Any negative experiences?

I have made two purchases on D&DB, both the monster portions of books I didn't want to buy as a piece (this was before they stopped letting people do that for some reason). In both cases I copied the information I wanted onto an offline source for personal use, and never looked back. Later a friend gave me access to some stuff on their DM account and I did the same thing.
Where I lost faith in the platform was when they stopped honoring the bundle discounts stacking with sale prices as they were advertised. I have spent well over a thousand dollars on the site, and if I could sell the account it I would, but it is not mine. The site sucks since wizbro bought it.

I haven't had any problems with DDB, though if you get a physical item from them...shipping (at least IME) can seem to take somewhat longer if you are more accustomed to the fast shipping of other sites (such as Amazon or Walmart for example).

These days my books tend to stay on the shelves a lot more than they used to, and I use Beyond for all my DM and play needs - even though I'm stubbornly clinging onto playing 2014. I will be sad the day the 2014 content is no longer available in this form*, but I will use the hell out of it until it does. I certainly feel like I've got my money's worth out of it.

* As a MS SQL Administrator, I'm slowly building a home version replacement with my 3rd party books included for the day this happens.

They murdered Disco Wizard, said they didn't mean to, but left him dead anyway.

(Also they killed off a la carte purchases. But Disco Wizard's murder feels worse in a way, since it wasn't done for financial reasons, but just because someone in management is a weird grump.)
Disco Wizard? Is this a real thing or just a "Disco is dead" reference?

It was an easter egg on their site where one could mouse over the upper right of the interface and you would light up a hidden strobing TSR wizard logo. Once you clicked on the disco wizard, a number of interface elements on D&D Beyond would strobe after that.

It was just a silly little thing a designer put in a long time ago. It was ripped out a few months ago even on the portions of the site that weren't part of the new marketplace site, which suggests -- despite WotC protests to the contrary -- that it was deliberate. They've never put him back.

This is a large version (a screen capture, I think) of the Disco Wizard.

I'd love to find a copy of the original GIF. It feels like it'd be a great emoji for my Discord server.

So, at this point, I think I've decided against shelling out the additional $10 for a searchable but slightly clunky searchable database of monsters that is subject to stealth revisions.
The monster database is not clunky at all; it's fantastic and has tons of filters to refine your search. DDB's general search function is poor, but the specialized ones under "tools" are great. You can also search monsters through the encounter builder, which is a massive time saver.

I don't recall a single stealth revision of a monster, but it's probably happened somewhere. It keeps legacy versions of monsters rather than replacing them; I still use monsters from Volo's all the time, for example.

Good move, IMO. Personally, I’d rather just own a physical book than buy access to an electronic resource that might be changed at any time.
