D&D 5E D&D Beyond Beta Update - Global Search

It's very nice. Not only is it very zippy but it seems to prioritise relevance very well. Search for a spell, for instance, and the top result is the spell followed by mentions of the spell in classes, monsters, items and forums.

If you're like me then this is the primary draw of a site like this. To be able to use this site at the table, with a laptop, to quickly search for things while playing, is an absolute godsend and pretty much 90% of the reason why I would pay to access as much material as possible on my account. I own almost all the books for 5e D&D and will continue to buy them, but for actual use at the table, I will always prefer a laptop, especially as a DM.

It's definitely looking promising. As they say in the post, they have less work to do now than when they began, and global search has been stated previously to be something that requires a lot of the site to be finished before implementing.

Also, you can find things in the search that you can't access for your account. Like the arcane trickster if you search for mage hand

I'm guessing, though, that they've been hearing complaints about the way the search returns hits from the forum. The mage hand search results are swamped by hits from one single thread.

Yes, they should definitely prioritise a little better with forum results being last after everything else.

Glad to see things are proceeding, as Beyond is now my go-to reference at the table. Also pleased to hear during the stream that Beta 2 -> Beta 3 will be much shorter than Beta 1 -> Beta 2!
