D&D General D&D Beyond's Users Online Over Last Year

More data is always nice but we cannot make any claims about the new core books out of this since we do not have similar data from before. It would be very interesting though to see the annual profile, particularly if it repeats on an annual basis.

I would think summer in general would be an ebb for DNDBeyond usage, but we have July 2024 vs 2025 being down year-over-year. I agree it's not a complete story, but what we have on that chart is not a very good story less than a year removed from the 2024 books launching.

What does that big lead-up between July 2024 and October 2024 correspond to? Where the users jumped from the low 2000s to the high 3000s.

PHB was officially released Sep 17, but DNDBeyond paid subscribers got it on Sep 3.

The small spike in July 2024 might actually be Quests from the Infinite Staircase.

Kinda supports the general vibe I'm getting that the new era isn't doing all that well. However, the story will be much clearer if we get a full two years of data.
I've had a lot of free time recently and I've spent a fair chunk of it thinking about d&d in the abstract: my homebrew campaign, forgotten realms lore, character builds, etc. D&D as a brand has good "market cap" on my brain, as it were

But what I'm not thinking about are official wizards of the coast products that I can buy. I got the core books and they're fine and dandy but we all knew that they were nothing to get excited about.

I spent the holiday weekend watching some of the old promotional actual plays they had with Matt Mercer for Storm King's Thunder and Tomb of Annihilation. I also remember those big streaming events they used to have in elaborate sets. D&D product slates used to be an event that got people hyped, but they've cut back on a lot of marketing in recent years so there's nothing to drive me to d&d beyond to talk about it engage with the site.

A couple issues with this data
1 - it's measuring "Forum Statistics" not site statistics
2 - it's measuring registered users, not necessarily total users
3 - it ignores app users entirely
4 - I'm looking at a higher number right now than any non-product spike than from August 2024
Could you unpack some of that in more detail?
1. Where do you find this number?
2. What is the difference between "forum statistics" and "site statistics"?

At the moment, I am having trouble understanding what this graph is suggesting. I need more context.

For instance, if it's measuring forum use, I would expect that to be a drop in the bucket compared to regular use, to skew much older, and to be much higher in the lead-up to a new product than a year later.

OK I did a little poking and if you login to DNDBeyond, weather or not you go into the forums, you are listed as active in the forums.

I logged into DNDBeyond elsewhere, didn't go into the forums and then went in without signing in from elsewhere. I see my account is listed as active.
