I have the VHS, but I've never even had the boardgame that went with it. I think the VHS alone is the, ahem, real star.

yeah the board game was not great , however it was a quick way to transition new players into D&D... and the minis that came with it weren't too bad...

I remember liking the boardgame far more than the VHS. It wasn't the most spectacular in that vein of game (Warhammer Quest or Advanced Warhammer Quest for those who know about them) but it did it's job well enough.
