D&D Experience / First 'Con

I was thinking about taking my son and my nephew to D&D Experience, since it's local (DC-Area). They are both 12-13 years old. Although I've gamed for years, I've never attended an RPG convention before.

I'm looking for suggestions on what events to check out. We were thinking of going on Saturday or Sunday for a few hours. I saw there was a "D&D for Beginners" that lasts about 4-1/2 hours and thought that might be the thing to do.

What I'll warn you is that it's fundamentally an RPGA convention. Other than the D&D For Beginners session, the only things that are being offered are RPGA campaigns, D&D Minis, and Star Wars Minis. (Oh, and Three-Dragon Ante, if you care about that.)

In other words, it's not your typical gaming con (it used to be called Winter Fantasy; they renamed it this year). You won't have folks running pick-up games in the halls, you won't see anything except RPGA campaign play, and you won't see anyone playing anything other than D&D.

If you've wanted to check out the RPGA, it might be worth your while. If not, probably not.

BTW, the RPG schedule for DDXP is here:
