D&D Insider #16

Of course they also suggest that it's not going to last and they'll eventually try to make people pay for earlier material (something I've never seen a subscription site do, ever)
Dragon and Dungeon Magazines are very different beasts from any other periodical (well, other than other gaming periodicals, of course). Back issues of most magazines lose value greatly as time passes. Who reads Newsweek from six months ago, unless you are doing research?

The crunchy articles in Dragon and the adventures in Dungeon are just as useful as time passes (barring edition changes). Their new plan seems quite sensical to me. Eventually, as a subscriber, I'll be able to download willy nilly any issue that was released while I was a paying subscriber. Issues that were released before I started my subscription I'll have to pay for separately if I want them. Sounds fair to me.

*cough* National Geographic *cough*

Also, Playboy.

Yes, they do. I got mine to work, eventually. The trick turned out to be to not change the currency to rands. Could that be what's causing the problem for you too?

Thanks for the hint there, I wil try that.

Edit: Awesome that worked, thanks for the advice!

Phaezen

I'd still suggest e-mailing them the problem and the work-around. I am not sure how many south african players are still wanting their DDI account, but it might be a problem in other currencies, too.

THough as far as I remember, €uro wasn't a problem.

Heh. Discovering that work-around took a dozen emails and two fairly lengthy phone calls to the support team, so they should already know about it.

They mentioned a price increase for the Character Builder which I think they should handle differently.

They should have a separate package for the Character Builder and the upcoming Dungeon Tiles/Visualizer, since not everyone that want the Magazines might want the new Programs and Mac/Linux users cannot use them anyway. I don't care for myself since I primary use Windows and the Character Generator Rocks, but it would be good if you can only get what you really want.

Lots of good stuff listed here, some things beside the above that caught my eye:
Yes, the improved search functionality on the Compendium is most welcome.

I also appreciate the fact that they'll increase the amount of time before they automatically log you out. Initially it will go up to one hour (currently it's 30 minutes) and might increase further later.

This is me, drooling. I all ready have a Bard and a Barbarian in my game, I am chomping to see what we get next.
Me too. But now I know that they are coming out with something that I really want to see, and it's not out! I have to wait until Friday to possibly see what it is, and then until sometime in December for the actual preview! I was much happier being ignorant as to what was coming. ;)

I'm hoping druid, so we can see the general direction they are taking with all three of the most popular omitted classes. If not the druid, then a Controller class would be nice (if there is one, I'm pretty sure druids and invokers are good candidates).

Hopefully the filters get fixed. Right now, I filter using "Goblin" and it only spits out monsters not from the Monster Manual... ???

Yeah... that's always been weird like that. It's not actually searching the monster type... but the little keyword after small natural humanoid (goblin)

I wonder.... I am guessing that the DDI price hike will only affect those that subscribe with the Character builder and the other tools they are planning to introduce, but this was explained long ago. I was under the impression that the Dungeon/Dragon subscriptions, along with Compendium will stay priced the same.

I.e. they will have different subscription types. Something like a basic, gold, platinum model, with basic being only Dragon/Dungeon (and maybe compendium, encounter builder), gold adding in the Character builder and visualizer, Platinum adding in the gametable.

I could be wrong about this though.
