I certainly hope it succeeds. I am looking forward to giving the gametable a shot, and if anything, the Dungeon/Dragon/PDF/Rules Compendium stuff should be good.

I think it'll be worth the 9.99 or whatever it comes out to with the annual subscription.

How much will the D&D Insider subscription cost?
$14.95/month, or you can buy a 3-month or 12-month subscription at a discount. A 12-month subscription works out to $9.95/month.

What portions of D&D Insider will remain free after the preview ends?
Certain elements of the D&D Insider tools will remain free in limited use for non-subscribers. For example, non-subscribers can use the Dungeon Builder to create encounter maps and use their .jpgs in offline games. Subscribers will be able to load these maps directly onto the D&D Game Table. As another example, non-subscribers can use the Character Builder to manually input character information or print out 4th Edition character sheets.

Are you interested?

Intrigued but leery. My group is on a couple different continents right now so DDI might give us an opportunity to keep playing. The open Beta better be pretty impressive though. I'm running a perfectly good Shadowrun PbP game right now with nothing more than the Dumpshock message board, the Invisible Castle diceroller, and a picture hosting service. Doesn't cost me a penny.

Do you think it will succeed?

I hope they produce something that deserves to succeed. Of course it won't live up to the hype, but even if it comes 75% of what they claim I expect it will still do quite well.

Given the Gleemax catastrofiasco, I am dubious about DDI's chances. That said, I think the idea of an integrated chat room and white table pre-loaded with D&D stuff is a good one. I think even if DDI goes down like the Hindenberg, its failure will still inspire some freebie/open source competitors that will make good on its promise.
