D&D Is Hiring a New Brand Publicity Manager

D&D is looking for Greg Tito's replacement.

Hasbro is looking for the next publicity manager for Dungeons & Dragons. Today, Hasbro posted a job listing for a "Sr Manager, Brand Publicity" to help manage PR and communications for the Dungeons & Dragons brand. While a different job title, the role assumably will replace Greg Tito, who departed Wizards of the Coast after nearly a decade for a position in public service.

Responsibilities for the job include managing the day-to-day planning of publicity programs, planning and executing product launches and consumer events, fan relations, and monitoring media about Dungeons & Dragons.

While the Dungeons & Dragons brand has seen its share of challenges in recent years, the position is likely to draw a significant degree of attention from within the TTRPG industry and outside of it. The role will likely help frame the future of D&D as it not only grapples with Hasbro's desire to grow it into a major digital gaming brand, but also as the tabletop game moves forward with its new revised 5th Edition. D&D has seen some recent changes in corporate ownership, with Jess Lanzillo taking over as the new VP of product and franchise for D&D earlier this year.

I think they also need better people in the advertising department.
I'm probably wrong but Publicity Manager sounds like the person that gets things organized after the advertising staff gets the word out.

It’s Brand Publicity Manager, so they will be working with the team to look at brand recognition, and other key brand metrics like trusted, net promoter, loyalty, brand value and brand values etc.

They might tap into 50th anniversary but I suspect it’s a longer term project. D&D clearly has great brand recognition but they probably want to develop some of the other stuff.

I’d be very interested to see some of the ideas that come out around what D&D is as a brand. Particular what they think it’s values should be. It’s gets overwhelmed by minutia and the latest ‘scandal/not-scandal’ of the week. It would be good to have some other metrics to discuss the hobby on.

For instance those brand values may be bringing new players into the hobby, or making it as accessible as possible. Maybe it’s about curating the legacy of IP. Could be all sorts of things.

These are what they are currently. Though this is for WotC rather than D&D as a brand. Who We Are | Wizards of the Coast. To be honest they look pretty good but I wouldn’t have known what they all were had I not looked them up.

It’s likely not about just printing more products.

Well as far as i am concerned Hasbro D&D is dead, I moved on to other companies for my resources like shadow dark and old-school Essentials, even before the OGL issue.

Mod Note:
You are always allowed to play whatever you like. You are allowed to have your opinions, but we do ask you to voice them where it makes at least a lick of sense.

But what you are doing here is what we call "threadcrapping". There is nothing constructive here, no interesting information or basis for discussion, or even anything relevant to the thread topic.

Give folks the space to have discussions about stuff you don't care for without dumping right in the middle of it, hey what? Thanks.

This is such a classic situation. Make sure to hire someone as soon as the biggest publicity event for D&D in the modern history of the game is over. "You might have thought that the 50th anniversary was a big deal but let me tell you about 51!"
I don't get the impression they had control over when Tito left. He left for another opportunity.

No, but if he did indeed raise concerns and didn't feel heard, they did have control over that. You don't even need to always necessarily fix the issues that people bring forward -- you just need to create a climate where people feel like their voices are heard and that they matter as people.

I have a manager at my company who has massive turnover on his team and he insists that it has nothing to do with him, despite every other manager having teams with comparable compensation and working conditions (other than working for him) staying on for years longer.

There won't be anything new for the 50th. At least not under this new person. You're looking at a month before they start (if things go really fast) and then even if they have a plan day one, they need months to get things in place. About that time its 2025 and no longer the 50th.
I am still waiting to hear word about the History of Dungeons & Dragons documentary that was supposed to be released this year. This must have been a major delay to it for no word to come out concerning its release. That is too bad. I really enjoy documentaries and I was looking forward to one that would do D&D justice.
