They could potentially keep selling minis, except that the randomness and the fact that some basic minis are not present, or rare/unique makes it unlikely that lots of people will continue to pick them up.

They may be selling out right now, but they also just arrived. I don't think they're strategy with this is a good one.

I agree. I meant to point it out in my other post, but most of me REALLY hates the "collectability" issue. If I need a band of orcs, I like to be able to go out and buy a few orcs. If I need a dragon for next week's adventure, I'd like to be able to go out and get a dragon (before it's pointed out to me, yes, I can do that now, but I'm speaking with regards specifically to the new minis) without having to pay through the nose to get what I want on e-bay or trade with people I probably don't necessarily like.

[Yes, the former Magic The Gathering player in me kinda likes the collectability thing, but I try to keep him locked up; unfortunately, I think he's slipped the bonds and is going to make me buy more minis soon]

Maybe someone needs to site a site/forum for those looking to buy/trade instead of buying random packs?

VERY good idea.

Hmmm....

[EDIT]: Done. Visit http://www.nightchilde.net and take the left-hand link.

Previously, this was used for my World of Darkness/Time of Judgement stuff, but I'm expanding it (not playing WoD anyway right now) to include just about any game.

Ok, I a friend bought one starter pack. Here are my comments...

The rare is the only one that looks good. His was a Dire Boar.

The orcs have purple skin??? I've never seen orcs with purple skin, why couldn't thay have made it green?

Tordek, looks like he lost weight. In fact all the humanoid figs looked skinny.

The drow female archer looked great, but she is very small. More like halfling size when I put her next to my circa 1980 lead figs. In fact all of the humanoid figs look small. So, if your using more recent pewter figs which are more on the scale of 28mm these guys will look even smaller.

What I hope WOTC does is produce some of the Large and Huge creatures that aren't done in metal. The Chain-Mail Hill Giant is one of the largest metal models I have seen. There are many bigger monsters that I would like to get figs for. I would like to see all the giants in the MM, all the large and huge elementals in the MM, all the large and huge dragons in the MM.

D'oh! That thread label isn't very clear!

How so?

I was raising only a specific point about the similarity of one creature from the Miniatures Handbook art and bastion's Minions book.
