D&D Miniatures really take off

So I finally got the chance to play the minis game the yesterday. I didn't really put much thought into my warband. I've gotten a few too many trolls, so I grabbed a couple of them, the cleric of Lloth, and an orc then played against someone who's played a few games before. His pyromancer was scary, but in the end I ended up trouncing him - 97 to 3. I got nuked by a fireball, which resulted in the death of my orc, plus my cleric and one troll got a little cooked. Fortunately the trolls regenerate. I just put the two of them together and had both thwack on the same enemy then moved on to the next.

In short, it was a load of fun, and it offers a limited way of playing D&D when you can only get a couple people together.

Aside from that, at the price these minis are going for, there is something to be said for being able to collect buckets of minis for your D&D game.

i like em, but human commoners are starting to wear me down. Plus, my area has little to none secondary market for these so far, so i have to buy by the boatload to get any decent amount of orcage.

plus i play dragonlance....

You know, I bought the starter pack and harbringer on a whim. I left em on my shelf without much thought after counting em.

Then a few days ago, I got a Starter pack and two harbringers from RPGA for free. I was elated. I opened em up, got the xml list from Emerald Games (thanks guys!) and sorted out what I had. And as i listed stuff i felt almost giddy. Made me feel like I felt back when I collected starwars CCG.

I'm hooked. Tommorw I'm buying two more harbringers.

Oh well. I guess this means that future editions of the RPG will be even more miniature compulsive and wargame-like. :(

Well you must be very excited about Dragoneye then! ;) Lots of dragons!

I am itching to not only get more minis but try out the skirmish game. It looks like a lot of fun and from what I have heard from those who have tried it, plays very fast (always a plus when you only have 30 minutes until the rest of your group shows up :) )

Yup - I think this game will find a niche (for me anyway) as something to do while waiting for everyone to show up for the game. After all, in that situation you have 1) minis 2) table 3) gamers 4) time to kill.

I was cold on them at first, but now I love the little things. I've gotten a booster and a starter, which was the totality of our local supply. Maybe I'll order the next pack online or something. Prepainted minis for $1.25 each is a little hard to pass up.

Personally, I think we may see a return of the theme packs down the road once sales start to drop off.

So, is there a secondary market yet? Ebay won't be reasonable (shipping will be triple what you would pay for the miniature), and I haven't seen anything else out there yet.

I bought about 5 expansion packs and one starter pack, and got almost everything I wanted. The bigger miniatures are better quality sculpts and paint jobs (I got the dire boar, the troll, and three! shambling mounds).

My FLGS just started selling singles for cheap ($4.00 for a rare... nice... I'm sure that won't last long.). EBay isn't so bad if you're willing to buy multiple miniatures at once from the same seller. That way, you cut down on the shipping costs. FRPGames also sells singles and their shipping costs are very low (though they're more like $7.95 for a rare).

If you're a collector, you can't possibly collect all of the miniatures from the packs without spending a fortune.

Dragoneye is also going to have some draconians in it. Between them and the samurai, it makes the Dragoneye set one I'm less interested in, but there are still some pretty cool minis in there
(spiiiider... he is our hero.... spiiiider.... we love you spider...).
