D&D Minis favorite pack?

Well, I've still been buying Deathknell packs and finally got a Beholder. Now just looking for an Aspect of Nerull. Been enjoying the new set as well. Least favorite of the recent batchs would be the Aberritions set. Terrible stuff for me as a DM since I don't like character figures.

How about other people's favorite sets?

If you haven't done any trading over at maxminis.com yet, I would *highly* recommend giving it a try. I just went through a glut of trading last week/this weekend, and now I'm sooooo close to completing most of the sets and/or getting all the figures I need. Granted, I was lucky that I had a few choice rares from older sets (Drow Cleric of Lolth, Drizizizizizizt, etc.) to trade that helped. If you have any duplicate rares, or even some good uncommon/commons, you should be able to find someone to trade with.

As far as the topic goes, I've been pretty happy with all the sets. Giants of Legend had some really terrific figures, but that damn Huge rarity distribution really turned me off. I bought three boosters before I walked away from it completely. Luckily, my mother bought us a case for Christmas - she rules. :) I was happier with Aberrations than most (except for those blasted Celestial Brown Bears that showed up in *every* damn booster I opened!), primarily because of the Bladebearer Hobgoblin - Best. Sculpt, Ever., IMHO. If I had to choose, though, I liked Deathknell a lot (my wife is obsessed with the Giant Frogs), and Angelfire was really great, especially as far as commons go (I bought 12 boosters individually, and got away with only two Wrackspawns) :) Oh, the day I bought two boosters and pulled an Ogre Mage and an Efreeti will long be cherished...

If you held a gun to my head, I'd probably have to say Angelfire is my favorite. Underdark is looking pretty good so far, despite its FR-heaviness (I know that's a draw for many, but not in my case). At least that should give me plenty of trade bait to get some of the other figures I'm missing!

I don't have a favourite set. I do slightly favour the newer sets (last 3-4) because they made playing CG worthwhile. And the quality of the sculpts did vastly improve, too.

and the paint jobs too, especially on the larger figures. Not perfect by any means and well below my level (i'd say a 3 on a 1-10 scale), but better than those first batches and leagues ahead of the original Mage Knight.

Giants of Legend is my favorite by far.

I liked Archfiends, Deathknell, and Angelfire

Dragoneye was okay.

Harbinger was okay, but clearly they have improved on their technique since then, so it's hard to judge.

Aberrations was the suckiest bunch of suck that ever sucked (IMO). ;) (I agree with JoeK on why it sucked.)

Aberrations sucking? I can't sign that. That was one great set, both for skirmish and for D&D:

CG finally got some nice, playable pieces to compete with the rest.

And we had the following nice figures:

Achaierai (another core monster, always nice. I want all the core monsters represented one day)
Alusair Obarskyr
Bariur Ranger
Celestial Black Bear (IMO one of the most beautiful commons ever)
Chuul
Cleric of Garl Glittergold (I mean, it's a Gnome. A GNOME!)
Cleric of St. Cuthbert
Crow Shaman
Destrachan (Our first large uncommon.)
Ethereal Filcher
Fiendish Dire Weasel (I just love that weasel)
Frenzied Berserker (This is as far away from stereotyped female as it gets)
Gibbering Mouther
Green Dragon (Though I still wonder what's so funny to him ;-))
Half-Elf Hexblade (One evil-looking guy)
Half-Illithid Lizardfolk (I'd have preferred a Mindwitness, but we can still hope for that in Underdark)
Hook Horror
Kobold Sorcerer (If the Emperor were a Kobold, he'd look like that. The Force is definetly with that one)
Mind Flayer Telepath
Mind Flayer Telepath (That was no glitch, he just has to be mentioned twice)
Rhek
Ryld Argith
Sahuagin Ranger (Somehow that's one of my favourites)
Sharn Cutthroat
Wyvern
Yuan-Ti Abomination (Try out a "Yuan-Ti and Old Lace" warband some time)

Aberrations wasn't all bad, but with it being so character-heavy (and with me already having sooo many characters) it was the only time with DDM I ever had buyer's remorse after buying a case.

It's also why I am not buying a case of War Drums (another starter set). I'll wait until it's out then buy all that I want though the secondary market.

It's really hard for me to pin down my favourite set. Aberrations is probably the one I least liked; although it's also the one I've had the hardest time finding packs of.

Angelfire, Giants of Legends and Archfiends really stand out as good sets, although Archfiends got attacked by the curse of the oversize figure. (I'm looking at you, Vrock!)

Cheers!
