I have no idea what a Thoul is, ashamedly - but I do know that it isn't in the SRD, so I can't use it ;)

The thoul is a classic Basic D&D monster- it's a weird one, and one that I always liked (back in the early 80's).

It's only conversion to AD&D that I can recall was in the Mystara 2e Monstrous Compendium.

Strange... it isn't in my copy of Basic (Holmes-era) D&D, either ;)

My favorites from my early years of D&D:

goblin, hobgoblin, bugbear, orc

skeleton, zombie, wraith

displacer beast, blink dog, unicorn, pegasus, griffon, roc

giant spider, giant scorpion

purple worm

animated statue, flesh golem, stone golem, iron golem

Another vote for this list.

I would add Ogre and maybe Hill Giant. Also add Bandit, Barbarian, etc. Really mooks for the players. If I remember correctly some of the older monster manuals listed Humans based on 'profession'.

I'd have to go with:

kobold, goblin, orc, ogre, minotaur

skeleton, zombie

carrion crawler, rust monster

grey ooze

giant spider

wolf (and dire wolf)

owlbear

All good suggestions. I'll try to have the first draft of the game up by the end of the week (I'll link to it in my .sig so that others can check it out).

It seems that I may have found a play group for Spycraft 2, so this project is going on hold for a while. Thanks for the feedback, everybody!
