I am of the belief that it is more properly prefaced by, "It might be inevitable but . . ." Without getting politically specific, I think there are alternatives to much of what become expediant.

Hrm, seems we've seen it in different contexts. NIMBY to me is when someone says "we need more Fu! They have to start making more Fu! .... What? A Fu factory in my neighborhood? My property values! Call the zoning board!!!!!" You seem to be using it in more of a "I don't want Fu, and I'll keep the Fu out of my little corner of the world as long as I can...."

I am surprised too how many people removed weapon speeds from 1E to me it was an important mechanic which added value and incentive to using lighter weapons like short swords etc.

Indeed. Weapon speeds were one of the few fiddly bits I kept from older editions.

2-headed weapons and repeating xbow
armor spike proficiency for core races (except 1/2 orcs)

Alignment.

It's simply not worth the hassles.

How have you treated the alignment-related spells, effects, etc? I wanted to remove alignment but my players revolted.

We removed all of them. Simple as that. We came up with slight alternatives for the paladin class later on, but none of the players had ever been interested in the class to begin with. And my players were not only accepting, but quite joyful when we got rid of alignment. After that the characters didn't feel limited to nine boxes.

Off the top of my head:
-Multiclassing restrictions on humans
-THACO and negative armor class being better. Used something similar to how it works now where armor starts at base 10 and higher is better and lower is worse.
-prismatic spells
- 1e psionics

What have you removed from this edition of rules?
- halfling riding dogs
- most of the alchemy items (e.g., sunrods and tanglefoot bags)
- orgosh's and other ridiculous weapons made up by the designers
- Vancian magic
- prismatic spells

What would you remove for the next edition of the rules?
- non biological race features (e.g., weapon proficiencies, combat bonuses vs. races )
- automatic class immunity to poisons or disease. Replace with a bonus to save.

- armor making you harder to hit
- hit points. Replace with Toughness/ Damage Save

- clerics with access to nearly every spell of a level that they can cast

- EXP for casting spells or creating Magic Items. Find some other penalty

- halfling riding dogs
- most of the alchemy items (e.g., sunrods and tanglefoot bags)
- orgosh's and other ridiculous weapons made up by the designers

- Vancian Magic
- prismatic spells (never liked them)
- spells that use the target's hit die/level to determine effect. Rewrite them so that various effects are based on the amount by how badly the save failed.

- Monster Classes

- Most PrCs

- Book of Exalted Good, Epic Level Handbook, Expanded Psionics Handbook, Magic of Incarnum, Tome of Magic, Tome of Battle,

- Most of the Content from the Complete books, Races of Books, Environmental books, and pretty much every other WOTC supplement.

- removal of multiclassing penalties.
- consolidation of skills as per the new Star Wars game
- As a player, removal of skill ranks (fine as an optional tool for DMs to create quick NPCs)
- Star Wars Force Mechanic
- Monster classes
- Most PrCs
- Book of Exalted Good, Epic Level Handbook, Expanded Psionics Handbook, Magic of Incarnum, Tome of Magic, Tome of Battle,

Monks again for flavor reasons. Bodaks and lots of other insta-kill creature.

Monks and anything that does not fit my campaign flavor-wise.

Complications - I look for the rules to get simpler.
