If I follow the OP correctly, the actual participants in the trial, lawyers, witnesses, and such, made no mention of D&D.

At one point the commentators pointed out he seemed like he was playing a 'game' when he went on a shooting rampage and asked anyone who had played D&D to email them.

So it sounds more like the commentators on Court TV decided to sensationalize the story by bringing up D&D. Can you confirm this conclusion, Jolly?

If I am correct, then it is Court TV we should be slamming, and not the lawyers.

Disclaimer: Yes, I am a lawyer. And there is enough sleaze in the profession without guilt-by-association type inferences like this one.

Wow, we are? I can't recall the last time I went on a mass murder! Must be all that TV.

But on that note I msut say I have had the displeasure of meeting some real Butt head Lawyers in my short life, also had the real pleasure of meeting some nice ones too. It boils down to the old saying

One bad apple spoils the bunch.

Actually it was discussed on the witness stand (several times). I'm not sure if it was the defense lawyer or the prosecution doing the questioning. All I know is Dungeons and Dragons definitely was discussed several times. The name of his character even came up and the fact that he collects D&D 'products'. At one point one of the lawyers asked him to explain the game and he did a very good job of describing it. (The guy has an IQ of 165 which he proudly pointed out.).

He's supposed to take the stand again this morning by the way. I was curious if anyone else had caught it.

All this speculation and vehement refutation of the lawyer = scum stereotype is well and good, but i'd like some more facts about the case. I don't watch court TV, and so i was wondering if this story hit anywhere in the online news? There's gotta be some actual information out there.

To be honest no slamming of D&D took place in the courtroom. D&D simply came up and was discussed.

It was indeed the commentators who bashed the game and discussed the ramifications of this bit of information.


It was as though it all suddenly made sense to them. "Oh.....he plays DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS." [knowing look].

I'm a law student in Houston and I'm about to graduate. All I have to say is that while lawyers have long since had a tarnished reputation in the public eye, I believe that due to recent events accountants are fast becoming the new "Public Enemy #1" (Priests are a close second).

It's unfortunate but true that members of a select group will be judged as a whole by the acts of the unscrupulous few.

Please don't think all lawyers are evil bastards, at least not until I get to screw you over.
