I believe DIA was published in 2019, which is about the same time BG3 was given the go ahead. Considering they had to write the story, it makes sense that it would be tied to something from that timeframe.

I really liked DIA, it was one of the best WOTC campaigns I have played. There are many obvious tie-ins to DIA, the hell riders, Zariel, El Terell refugees etc.

He'll rider's predate DiA. There's a few tie in to the lore in Volos Guide to monsters and older 2E lore around Netheril and Karsus.
