D&D Rules Cyclopedia-any experiences

It the first D&D book I bought. I never had a chance to use the rules to play but I liked it. Have it to this day. I haven't opened it in years. I may have to go and grab it off of the shelf.

IF I were you, I'd definitely look into this thread:

THe dude's gonna spend 101 days (it's an RPGnet thing--they spend 101 days with a new game or something like that) with just D&D RC. I get the impression he's relatively new to the game, so he'll be learning rules and whatnot and posting about his experiences. Looks like a very cool thread to bookmark.

Thanks. I followed one for 101 days of Savage Worlds, and I noticed this one for the Rules Cyclopedia, too. I won an eBay auction for it today, so I'll be reading it soon.

I'm down with all the things that folks find negative about the RC. I love me some race-as-class, THAC0 (I'm a 2E Guru and host a podcast about it) and above all, Descending AC (how God intended AC to be).

Okay BS aside, RC is THE go-to D&D when I DM. A copy of the RC and the Creature Caralog is all I need to rock a campaign.

I really can't say enough good things about the D&D Rules Cyclopedia. For Basic D&D, there is no other book you'll ever really need once you have that. I started playing Basic D&D out of some introductory sets, and once I got that book, I had everything I needed until I went to AD&D.

I'd recommend that book to any D&D enthusiast, even if you don't play the Basic game.

Yeah, the RC is superb. :) I just remembered my copy is tucked away in a box in my mom's attic! Wow! When I visit for the holidays it will be fun to break that out!

RC is great. I was going through some old boxes this summer and found I have three copies in excellent condition. After playing 1e for a year I think RC would be a good improvement for what I want.

WotC should really republish this one while they're on a re-release kick.

Yes!
WotC needs to reprint this book now! :)

I have recently returned to the RC for my PbP games and would like to use it for my regular group as well.

Most of the criticism against this ruleset comes from people who have little experience with it. Some things that seem strange on paper is very different when used in actual play. RC (or BECMI) D&D runs much more smoothly than many other editions I have played in and also works better than most editions at higher levels.

If WotC doesnt reprint this edition, I suspect it is because the RC is simply too good, too complete. :)

PS: Someone please give Olgar XP for me :)

If they reprinted it, I'd probably buy three more copies so I could have enough for an average game.

RCD&D is the only game I'm interested in DMing right now. I ran a fairly successful 2yr game with it, and I've got another concept or two lined up with players as soon as I have free time. But between work, toddler, and another baby arriving in December, free time is sparse.

Many other games will do something better than RCD&D does it. However, I haven't found anything that will do as many things well as RC does.

More love for RC! I'm currently running ACKS, but RC makes a good reference and is a great book in itself (and is easier to reference than the BECM books).
