One of the people involved in that Unbreakable compilation book that went up on Drive Thru RPG said they'd like to take a swing at it and, as far as such things go, reckon people on that side of things would be the best to go with given the combo of vested interest and previous work

Another possible way forward for WotC is to intentionally design a setting or two with blank spaces. Imagine sort of like ad lib settings that are meant to help new GMs and players think about settings by setting up some aspects of the world but providing enough blanks for a novice GM to fill as they please. Nentir Vale and 13th Age come close to such an approach. This may also work for people like @Oofta, who may want always evil orcs. He setting guide may ask: who lives in these mountains? What is their relation to the people who live in the neighboring valley? How are orcs in this world? Etc.
