Did anyone ever actually HAVE a D&D club in high school?

Mine didn't. Wondering if others did.

We didn't have a D&D club, per se. What we had was a tacticians club. I believe it was originally a wargaming group, that ended up switching to D&D when D&D began to grow in popularity (this was around 78-81).

Of course, I wasn't a member. I had my own group that I gamed with (with many from different schools).

All of my most ignominious moments happened there. Trapped in a secret room because I couldn't find a hidden door? Yup. Killed when I did find the door, it fell on me, and people walked over it? Yup. Couldn't hit a thing for four sessions, then I found out I was rolling a d12 to hit? Yup. Lost almost a dozen PCs because the DM let a player run an antipaladin? Yup.

Man, that D&D club sucked! :D

But I met friends I still cherish today 20 years later, I had a great time, and I fell in love with the game. And really, that's probably what matters.

PS Friggin' antipaladins. The guy who killed all my PCs recently registered at classmates.com; I've though of emailing him! "Dear Chris, 20 years later I am scarred by your cruelty. And how are you? Love, Kevin" *grin*

Before heading out west, Richter worked with the Annoyance Theatre here in Chicago, a group that builds their shows through improv. I'd venture a guess that a lot of people who have been involved in improv, here and elsewhere, have some roots around the gaming table. :)

We didn't have a D&D club at our high school (back in the seventies) but we had a local club at a Park District Field House where I first learned to play (though this was still a bit before high school).

I remember walking in one week (we used to play regular wargames there) to find that some folks were gathered around a table and rolling large amounts of dice. One fellow, Big Bill Hudson, was running two characters with a large retinue of followers (some of which were being run by other players). His fighter named Thor (wielding the obligatory returning hammer) was pounding some monster or other while his hobbit named Loki was sneaking around behind to try and steal something. Very munchkin, very fun.

That was my first time seeing the game and I sat right down and starting trying to make a character to join them. :)

What? Say it ain't so! Andy Richter controls the universe has to be one of the funniest shows this year!

Plus, I'm, pretty similar to him. We even have the same first name.

A D&D club at BHS? BWAAAAAHAHAHHAA! I think it would consist of me, and my gaming group....and possibly the new theatre teacher Mr. Denesha. Hmmm...maybe *I* could start one....oh wait, nevermind, we've got pat claar, a right-wing, fascist, anti-christ as our associate principal... (Mayor's wife.... I wonder how she got the job...heh) she'd probably try and burn the D&D club--tie them up on stakes in the courtyard and burn piles of D&D books under us.

And to keep this on topic--woohoo! More mainstream media attention for D&D!

We have one at our Highschool. We started it ourselves, a year ago, and it runs quite nicely. But we are preparing ourselves for our graduation, and 80% of the club consists of 6th graders (the gratuation year), so it doesn't go to well lately. I don't know what will happen next year, since most of the club is gone by then, but maybe it will continue.

Trevalon Moonleirion, you named your principal, then said all kinds of nasty things about her, in writing. Way to Libel someone! Never heard of defamation suits, have you?
