D&D sold to an internet company?

Ok, since there still seems to be some confusion:

The rant was all in fun, WotC did not sell D&D to an internet company....

There's something very terrifying about the sheer inability of far too many people to recognize a VERY obvious joke. It's as if any ability to see the world except in the most literal of terms has been bred out of the species.

You have to wonder if some of these people dutifully turn off their computers for the annual Internet cleaning, or think Bill Gates will give them free tickets to Disneyland if they forward a message...

(Thinking of all the people who fell for the 'Russian Female Gamers' ad in KODT...)

But I *still* think Romance&Relationships would be a great entry in the Legends&Lairs line! Hell, I'll even volunteer to write it (at my usual rates). Shoujo D&D! (Think Escaflowne...)

As long as Billy Gates doesn't buy D&D, I'm okay with just about anything. :D

But... if MS bought it then the prophecy of theonion would be made manifest. Oh wait, hehe, no... we don't want the end-times happening just yet, do we? :D

I hope that Monte, Peter, Ryan and Johnathan get together and form a new company and purchase DnD as a whole. That would be the best thing to happen to DnD since TSR sold to WOTC. I dread anyone else getting it and making a fourth edition, unless it uses some of the newer armor rules like DR instead of deflection etc and WP/VP.

Uhh, Monte et al would have to borrow way more than they would be allowed to for that. D&D is movies, TV shows, computer games, maybe cartoons again, books, novels, cheesy board game adaptions, bedsheets, t-shirts, and probably a breakfast cereal at some point. IF Hasbro ever sold WotC or D&D I see a smart company hiring some of these folks to work on the game (name alone would help sell it) and if they did good work then it would sell even better. I think Monte is one of the highest paid in the busines at the level we dream of gaming benig owned, and I don;t know him personally, or how much he makes, but I bet the millions required to buy D&D would be a little more rope than Monte coul pull together. I DO NOT know what Monte makes for sure. I've heard rumors from other publishers and in chats and such. Even if Monte is one of the top dogs actually breaking a six figure income, there's no way he could put up the collateral to get the millions needed. Sorry to break your bubble, D&D is now a corporate entity. Just do your best to support the guys you DO like and maybe some suit will wake up and get that team together again. It worked well once...

While I don't know for SURE, I strongly suspect no one in the gaming industry except maybe Peter Adkison ever got within sighting range of six figures. Based on what I've seen, 'starting salary' for game designers is in the low 20s; the top end seems to be about 35-40. Now, Monte and other truly big names might be a bit higher than that, but I doubt they're three times higher.

Peter Adkinson is the only person currently active in gaming that has the millions that D&D would cost.My fear is that someone we don't know about that has always played but made a lot of money in another industry will buy it or worse yet someone who knows nothing about gaming that thinks it might be a good investment.

Who cares? D20 is done. The core books are out there and so are the independent companies writing stuff. D20 is on it's way to becoming a universal Pen n paper RPG system.

If D&D tanked today, I don't think it'd cuase a big dent in the creative matriel that comes out of this board alone, much less all of the internet.
