Eberron first in 5 years?

Man, I wish Wizards would acknowledge Kalamar as the official campaign setting that it is...

Don't forget Kalamar was a setting before it had the D&D logo. (Though I don't know the date, it was in the 2e era.)

What was the newest campaign setting before Kalamar?

Before 3e Kalamar, probably Jakandor.

Before original Kalamar, you'd have to tell me when it came out.

To hear something that I'm so passionate about -- still, after all these years -- being talked about this way... I don't know whether to yawn or to take umbrage. Whatever: Que sera, sera.

Hehe, yeah, that's what I was thinking, and pondering their evil take over the world marketing plan... :)

But this is probably where most people are at...

uuuuhhhhh. You know, I really like D&D. But not to the point that it is a lifestyle.

* Existing backlist will be made compatible with series structure in reprint
So, is this stuff like the Planar Handbook? I mean, is the Planar Handbook the Manual of the Planes touched up for 3.5 and dropped into a product series?

Heh. :)

How often do you play D&D?

I know I play regularly every second Sunday, and until recently every Friday night (and that might be starting again soon). At that point, when it is a regular part of my life, I'd consider it part of my lifestyle.

Well, not exactly. I think the Planar Handbook, like the Player's Guide to Faerun, updates the 3E book to 3.5E whilst adding new stuff.

I think by the "backlist" they talk about things like the Complete Warrior - the next printing of it will have "Hero Book I" or something printed on it; perhaps a different cover (though unlikely).

Cheers!

I get the impression from this whole series thing that 3.5 is here for the long haul.

That would be nice and lend some stability to the market.

But I'm not holding my breath.

"Lifestyle" in this context is a marketing buzzword for "a line in which customers will keep on buying related products for a long time". Whether you actually play or just stack the books up somewhere is secondary to the fact that you buy them, so far as WOTC's marketing strategy goes.

See, to hear something I'm passionate about being talked about like this makes me very happy. It means that they're actually serious about supporting the product, that they actually have a plan for the future, that they actually do study their market somewhat, and most importantly that it's not going to end up the haphazard mess that it ended up being under TSR.

Stage III Consumer:
* Profile
- plays regularly
- involved in D&D as a hobby ("lifestyle")

* Migration Goals
- retain player
- increase purchase behaviour

ha. i knew they were getting my customer feedback cards, letters, emails, and death threats. :uhoh:

maybe they even read a rant or two of mine on one of the 15 or so message boards i visit. :uhoh:

lifestyle....yes...it is a lifestyle. how many people make a living on this lifestyle. i know i could've bought a decent car by now just with the money i've spent on this "hobby". :heh:

For me, I'd say it's a "lifestyle inclusion." I post regularly to several D&D message forums, I buy one RPG product AT LEAST every 2 months (more when I have money and time), and I game on average once a week. Some extreme sport devotees don't devote as much time to their hobby as I do RPG's. :)

I assume Serpent Kingdoms is all about the Yuan-ti? Sign me up

It's about the Yuan-Ti, and about the Chult and the western Vilhon Reach regions in the Forgotten Realms, according to a seminar at Gencon 2003. But never fear - the rules-specific portion will be at least at "minimum crunch threshhold" for gamers who don't use FR. :)

Say what you will about the "bean counters" -- they've got some pretty good ideas in this 2004 plan. I look forward to seeing more about the "Environment Series" - Frostburn???
